Just kidding. Seriously, I hope he will be blessed, and that he will find the guidance he needs to stop being so WEIRD.

thanks for this interpretation of the harmony.

i do like the original, but this version resonates with me more emotionally in terms of meaning because of the combination of the English with the guitar.

Take it with a pinch of salt sidi Haseeb. The Sun isn't that all reliable.

However, if it is true, then Alhamdulillah :)

I thought it was "all intents AND purposes," not "all intensive purposes." But yeah, that one always bugged me, whichever it is. Most of his others, I don't find annoying. They seem pretty common to me.

From a nerdy linguistic perspective, there is nothing wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition in English. The rule comes from Latin, and was imported into English at a time when it was believed that Latin was "the perfect language." Now, people have realized that English is a Germanic language that does not need Latin rules, and that's why it's become acceptable to end a sentence with a preposition. Trust me, my professors would have corrected me if it wasn't!

And some of these things are not even prepositions, but parts of phrasal verbs (pushes nonexistent glasses up nose)...

It would be ironic if Barack Obama, as president, supports the use of invasive (and illegal) surveillance methods of Muslims, including Imam Zaid himself.

We American Muslims have a hollow approach toward politics. Since 9/11, our vote has not mattered. It has not been aggregated to serve as a cohesive and sought after bloc. Part of the reason is not our fault. We are toxic politically. Look at how the Obama campaign ditched its Muslim outreach coordinator in a heartbeat.

But the other reason is that there are natural differences in our community. If you are an African American living in an urban, predominantly black community with a household income of $40,000, your personal interests and political outlook certainly will have basic differences from a Pakistani American living in a predominantly white upper middle class area with a household income of over $200,000. We live in different areas. We experience different daily realities. That is not to say our political interests cannot converge. But the point is that being Muslim doesn't mean all our other characteristics and thinking will be identical.

Still, I hope Obama will be a transformative president. He is a brilliant man. He is an excellent family man. Many of his political views are reasoned and balanced. He is overly liberal on some issues.

I recognize that he, like any other elected official, will not be able to fulfill his promises. But our expectations of him are not guaranteed outcomes. Never give a politician a blank check. If you do, you will be bankrupt.

Obama went to AIPAC and basically circumcised himself on stage to show his pro-Israeli bonafides. Still, he faced an uphill battle gaining the Jewish vote. They were vigilant -- to a fault.

In contrast, Obama fired his Muslim coordinator and his staff did not want him to take a picture with Muslims (yes, I know it was a 'zealous' volunteer, but having worked on a campaign I know that volunteers NEVER make up the rules themselves). And after all that, we gave him our complete loyalty.

Other communities sell their vote to the highest bidder. We leave ours on the doorstep of an unwilling recipient.
