Eid Mubarak from Shah Rukh Khan!

Now, i know that Bollywood is filled with fitnah and other haraam content. However just as the American movie industry is popular here in America, the Indian Movie industry is very popular not only in South Asia - but throughtout much of the world. The King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, is probably the world’s most famous actor - and he is an Indian Muslim (of Peshawari Descent). He is also known to have grown up secularly - yet has always remained proud of his Muslim background. And recently over the past few years given the political/religious climate of the world and/or the way Islam has been viewed in much of the world, Shah Rukh Khan has become more aware of the importance of Islam, and has said that he “needs to stand up for the goodness of Islam”.

Now I am well aware of all the ’sins’ he commits outwardly in his movies, and the fact he is married to a hindu, etc. However he is still our Muslim brother and we should make dua for him to overcome and repent for his sins and change for for the better. Moreover, for better or for worse, he is in fact revered across much of the world, including by young Muslims. So for him to be, even only publicly by speeches, acknowedging the importance of our deen - this should be praised.

Here is a recent interview with Shah Rukh Khan at a Sehri (Sahur) Party in India, where he talks about Ramadan and Eid:

For those of you who don’t know urdu/hindi, here is my attempt to summarize: Please correct me if I made any mistakes!

Shahrukh khan does fast in Ramadan, but admits he misses some fasts because of his schedule, and realizes that he must make up his missed fasts and intends to make them up!

He also makes dua asking that young Muslims learn the positive aspects of the deen. To learn the manners, happiness, and love in the deen. He comments how unfortunately there are certain sects/groups of people who misinterpret the religion- put aside the love and peace of the religion. He mentions that on Eid - he gathers with his actor friends and their children and they pray together at his home, and he encourages the younger more educated Muslims to lead the prayer. He has made “Muslim-style” clothing for his family this upcoming Eid.

He appeals to everyone - young and old - educated and non-educated - Muslims and non-Muslims - and mentions that whatever work he has done in his life - how that it wasnt that important. Nonetheless, he realizes that people listen to him, that’s why they use him for advertisements. The greatest advertisement he wants to make to all young people is that we need to educate and better ourselves - and fighting and aggression is completely wrong. At 42 years of age, as a father - maybe he understands this and younger people dont. But with love, he encourages this.

    you know whats interesting

i’ve seen many people who stand up to defend some of the muslims in the american entertainment industry, like Akon, Chappelle and even Mike Tyson for their immoral behavior because they are their muslim brothers,

but this is the first time someone has done that for a bollywood muslim actor

Not to digress from the topic being discussed here but I was recently watching a public lecture with Dr Zakir Naik on TV who made a couple of points I thought was very interesting.

The topic of Sania Mirza (Indian Tennis player for those who do not know) was being discussed and how she publicly during her tennis matches wears skirts, and tight tops etc.

The point he made was one of THE biggest sins a muslim can do is not pray their 5 daily obligatory prayers. Sania Mirza has publicly said she offers her 5 daily prayers. Dr Naik went on to say, even though he does not agree with her dress code at least this sister is offering her prayers. We have Muslims like cricket players out on the field playing through at least 2 prayer times. We have muslim bollywood actors blatantly committing shirk (which is the biggest and gravest sin) when playing the role of a hindu and/or zina on screen, yet nobody says anything about them.

An interesting point from a fiqhi perspective is that you should never joke about marriage or divorce. I remember when studying this topic we were taught that when actors on stage or in a film ‘get married’ as part of the role this is considered as a valid marriage even though it was acting.

Based on this, I wonder how many times some of these actors have been married? lol.

Back to the topic at hand. MR, ameen to your du’a!

Sidi Haseeb, the point you made about him being revered by young muslims - i wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. Its more the females that would have an interest in him more than anything. Don’t get me wrong, Allah (SWT) has blessed this brother with good looks, masha’Allah (SWT).

To use the word reverance would be more appropriate for the likes Mufti Ali Goma, Shaykh Bin Bayyah, or perhaps Mohammed Ali etc

SubhanAllah, is br. Haseeb naive or what?

What type of Islam are you portraying here? Shah Rakh Khan maybe a good hearted person — no doubt about that — but to paint him as some sort of Muslim inspiration is plain falsehood and deception by Haseeb.

Shah Rukh Khan is the man who says he does both, namaz and pooja. I hope he has recanted those statements and taken the shahada again.

People like Haseeb need to study the basics of Islam and it’s system lest they end up like Shah Rukh Khan.

I’m sure even the hadith deniers and qadiyanis say and do good things about Islam but that doesn’t mean much when they have the basics messed up. Haseeb, you need to get your facts right before spreading falsehood in the name of Islam like this. Don’t misguide Muslim youth with such hogwash!

whoaaaa…. calm down there ms. nad al-sheba.

I am not portraying any kind of Islam in this post. The type of Islam i endorse is that which i usually post about from scholars such as Shaykh Hamza, Imam Zaid, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, Shaykh Husain, Imam Suhaib Webb, Dr. Jackson, Dr Umar Faruq Aballah, etc. (and even within these scholars there is great diversity).

Of course I will not say that Shah Rukh Khan is a role model with respect to how to live an ideal Muslim life - because obviously he isn’t. I do not support the legality of Muslim-Hindu weddings, or any innovation in worship outside the sunnah, or shirk (assocating partners with Allah (SWT)), etc. All i am sharing here on this post - is something GOOD that shahrukh khan is saying - and praising him for simply that. Should not his good actions be promoted?

Somebody told me a story once, they were on Pakistan Airlines flight and they see a religious family come on board. The father had the fist lenght beard, mother in niqab, and the daughters wearing abaya. Later on those abaya clad daughters go up to the flight attendant and ask him “shahrukh khan konsi nayi movie hai(what new shahrukh khan movie do you have)”

its amazing that we can tolerate his fitna, but we cant stand it when he says something good

    PS. Everybody is a sinner.

Jazakallah khair. Thank you for that comment Ali.

Why cant we all just keep it real?

Muslims are flawed. Most of us have our own vices, whether it may be music, movies, TV, books, websites, etc. Some brothers watch WWE, or Chris Rock/Russel Peters comedy. Some sisters love Grey’s Anatomy or whatever chick flick is popular nowadays. No one will argue that these are completely halal (they obviously arent). And MANY across much of the Muslim world love bollywood, and especially Shah Rukh Khan. Thats just reality.

Assalam-w-alaikum to all my friends here,

First of all let me clear one misconception here that Shahrukh Khan or Salman Khan is Muslim, they born and brought up in Muslim Family but later they forgot deen for Duniya and now for the sake of money and publicity they make all happy showing that they follow all Religion.

Shahrukh Khan finds no difference between Allah (SWT) and other Gods in other religion, He and his family do pooja in his home as well as in his office, he has Hindu God in his home and also teach his kids to offer prayer to them.

There is Fatwa from India Muslim Scholars against these actors and Recently Salman Khan participiated in Ganesh Pooja and did Pooja by himself with his father at home.

So they both are Kafir and must not be consider as Muslim.
