Published by Haseeb April 4th, 2008 in IslamSister Kimberly Joseph (Hunter College ‘07) converted to Islam in 2004, and is currently working on a Muslim Converts’ Anthology. She is asking for submissions from other Muslim converts. Here is a letter from her:
Bismillah ArRahman ArRaheem,
(In the name of Allah(God) the Most Gracious the Most Merciful),
Assalam alikom! (Peace Be Upon You)
I am so delighted to share with you all that I am finally, by the will of God, sending out a call for submissions for my first book! It will be an Anthology, or collection of stories, about others like me who have converted to Islam. I will be doing this mainly through email, so please forward this to anyone who may be interested in sharing their story! This is open to men and women of all ages! Please see the attached flyer for details!
Email submissioms to muslimlikeme@yahoo.com
Jazak AllahKhiran, (May Allah
reward you)

Yup! Here’s my own poem. MashaAllah, I converted from cultural mozlem to more of a fundaMENTAL type at the tender age of 16 years.
“In Me”
Chorus (X2)
Yeah baby this is in me
Doesn’t matter if you can’t see
You could never free me from me
I choose what’s in my destiny
O yeah baby this is in me
El Moro
The Romeo in me….
Hasn’t found his pretty Juliet yet
But come this June she & I will be happily wed
The sufi in me….
Has gone so very introspective
This soft heart’s mind has lost the perspective
The wacko in me….
Is suicidal blowin’ up disbelievers
But first I’ll have to visit some shrinks & healers
Chorus
Yeah baby this is in me
Doesn’t matter if you can’t see
You could never free me from me
I choose what’s in my destiny
O yeah baby this is in me
Da Shak
The warrior in me….
Is on the streets lookin’ for a fight
Couldn’t do any jihaad or pray the tahajjud at night
The HT in me….
Is building the khilaafah top-down
Silly me, there’s no noise without first makin’ sound
The leader in me….
Is hungry for more power and glory
How much can I handle before death ends my story
Chorus
Yeah baby this is in me
Doesn’t matter if you can’t see
You could never free me from me
I choose what’s in my destiny
O yeah baby this is in me
Da Shak
The devil in me….
Is partying hard in the Caribbean
I guess that’s coz’ I’m doing all his work for him
The TJ in me….
Repeatedly calls & knocks on doors
I’ll passively remind & give you circular local tours
The daa’ee in me….
Invites all of you to Islam, welcome
Come see me practise this beautiful deen so seldom
Chorus
Yeah baby this is in me
Doesn’t matter if you can’t see
You could never free me from me
I choose what’s in my destiny
O yeah baby this is in me
El Moro
The brother in me….
Didn’t ever give a damn about you
Sunk in my selfishness, heck my life is so screwed
The believer in me….
Has been sleeping for far too long
So blame me for not helping the Ummah be strong
The convert in me….
Scores goals like Robin Van Persie
Help support my growing faith O Lord have mercy
Chorus (X2)
Yeah baby this is in me
Doesn’t matter if you can’t see
You could never free me from me
I choose what’s in my destiny
O yeah baby this is in me
