Why the NY Giants will win Super Bowl 42… or will they?
Published by Haseeb January 25th, 2008 in SportsYes, its true… I’ve jumped on the Giants Bandwagon. I can’t help but root for Big Blue. Never in a million years would I have believed the Giants would currently be NFC Champs given their performance all season up till about a month ago. Somehow they have really turned it around from Week 17 on. While they are still huge underdogs going into Super Bowl 42 next week, here are 5 reasons why I think they will surprise the world and upset the Patriots:
1. Eli Manning
Eli Manning has finally transformed himself this postseason into a bona fide NFL Superstar QB. After four years of mediocre play, and a poor performance this past season, he has really turned it around since the New England game. Here are a couple examples of how drastic his performance has changed:
|
2007 NFL Season |
Playoffs |

|
QB Rating (Rank) |
73.9 (25th) |
99.1 (2nd ) |
|
Interceptions |
20 (1st) |

|
Completion % |
56.1 (29th) |
68.8 (3rd) |
Eli Manning has become one of the best QBs in the league overnight. He is finally living up to the hype and expectations since being drafted 1st overall back in 2004.
2. NO Tiki Barber
Tiki Barber held Eli back. The Giants were just as productive running the ball this season than they ever were with Tiki. Tiki was critical of Eli and had no trust in him as team leader or in his capacity to lead the Giants’ offense. Moreover Eli never showed his true skill and commitment as a passer with Tiki in the backfield as Tiki was always there for a short pass to bail the play out. This year – without Tiki, Eli has shown true confidence at the line of scrimmage, being more vocal than ever before, changing plays at the line, and making excellent throws. Moreover, not having Jeremy Shockey may also be a blessing – as Shockey and Barber were always the most vocal Giants. Not having those two egos in the locker room may finally be the reason why Eli has been so loud this postseason.
3. Plaxico Burress
Plaxico Burress is the most under-rated wide receiver in the NFL. He has played hurt all season and has come up huge week in and week out. In my opinion he is just as good as Randy Moss. I doubt the Patriots will single-cover him like the Packers did, but Plaxico must come up huge again like he did last week if the Giants are to win.
4. Defense
The Giants defense MUST come up huge and put pressure on Tom Brady all game if the Giants want to compete.
5. 19-0???
The Perfect season? I don’t think so. Here’s another record for ya: 10 straight road victories for the Giants. And guess where the Super Bowl will be held? … Not in The Meadowlands!
The Patriots are a great team, quite possibly the greatest team ever – and Tom Brady is phenomenal. Nonetheless, as the NFL has shown throughout it’s history, anything can happen any given Sunday. Next Sunday will be no different – and the Giants can and in my opinion will go on to upset the world.

InshaAllah, the Giants will defeat the Patriots! We will be victorious!
Believe it or not, I told my friends and co-workers (mostly Cowboys fans) back in week 9 or 10 that the Giants were going to win the superbowl. Now everyone (mostly Cowboys fans) are telling me I’m just jumping on the Giants bandwagon… ha! It doesn’t matter, the Giants will be crowned Superbowl champions and I’ll have the last laugh… GIANTS 24 New England 23.
