The ad on the left is an advertisement for “finding a Muslim ‘marriage partner’”… like a spouse I guess they mean…

Being thankful to Allah (SWT) (swt) or showing gratitude to people is ofcourse not haram.

What is the logic of setting aside a day e.g. “Thanks giving day” for this?

‘Isa is a prophet close to my heart. It does not mean I’ll be “celebrating” X-mas!

Likewise, it is laughable that a day in the year is allocated to “celeberate” Mothers Day.

Next, i’ll be treating my wife extra special on Valentine’s huh?

Why not celebrate Haloween’s too because of our own belief in Jinns?

Thanksgiving is 24/7 354 lunar to my creator.

Such “celebration days” are random or paganistic allocations now used as money making schemes masked by noble cause excuses.

Our ‘Eid’s are but two. Gratitude to Allah (SWT) and His creation, good behaviour towards mother, loving the wife…. and other such noble actions are FOR LIFE… not for a date that is commodified and commercialised to milk out cash from hapless zombies lost in WalMart world.

What about the Single Muslim ads?

    Brother Aman Ali:

Regardless of the holiday’s history (Im talking about Thanksgiving in particular), essentially all it is - is a day where we are all off from work/school and spend time with our loved ones over a fancy well prepared dinner.

God forbid we set aside a day outside of the two eids to meet with our loved ones…

Commodified and commercialized??? Were talking about thanksgiving here - oh wait ur right - the greedy travel industry and turkey farms - shame on them too, right?

MR: umm… so what about the single muslim ads?

I second the comments of Aman Ali. I totally agree with you brother. Now granted there are positive aspects of Thanksgiving, but they should be weighed carefully with the negative aspects. As Muslims when we celebrate something it should be for something worthwhile and good. We shouldn’t be mindless zombies just celebrating things left and right because thats the garbage society and media feed us. If we look at the origins of Thanksgiving, at least the New England pilgrim story, we discover a tragic story of one group exploiting another and then exterminiating them as if they were some pesky insects. In modern times people are known to overeat to disgusting excess, especially so during Thanksgiving and this is totally contradictory to the sunnah. I know many Muslims who indulge in this practice of eating as much as they possibly can during this day. Who are we emulating when we indulge in such practices? You might say well during Ramadan and Eid some Muslims overeat too. That also is in direct contradiction to the sunnah, but unlike Thanksgiving, Ramadan fasting is fard and the Prophet celebrated Eid. If for you Thanksgiving is a way for your family to come together, giving thanks, and you don’t indulge in overeating, shopping, and other excess then that would seem to be ok, but for the overwhelming majority of people who do celebrate Thanksgiving, unfortunately indulgence and excess is the norm.

By the way, the way they raise turkeys in this country is totally shameful and amounts to torture. The food is not tayyib at all. Look at the hormones and other things they pump into those turkeys to get them so obese and large so quickly. Ugh, it’s disgusting. Actually the whole meat industry in this country is disgusting and definitely not tayyib. For instance what do cows eat? Grass. Yup grass. What do they feed the cattle that are raised for beef? Nope not grass, they feed them grain! Yeah, grain that is loaded with all sorts of junk to fatten up those cows in a hurry so they can get nice and obese, more tasty, more profit, but ultimately less healthy, unatural and definitely not tayyib. Why should we support such an atrocious meat industry? And on Thanksgiving these turkey coroporations love those profits, but they could careless about the effect all that non tayyib turkey meat has on your colon and the rest of your body. Do yourself a favor and do some research on the meat and food industries in this country and how they are contributing to an unhealthy life.

It is not simple as halal or haram.
If youare gonna get together as a family or friends because it happens to be thanksgiving weekened, dont call it thanksgiving and specifically have Turkey, etc.

Everyone has their own opinions on this. I’d be careful if someone told me it is haram rather than argumentative about it because you can never be sure if youare doing the right thing and in the end if youare doing the right thing, then dont be frustrated about it. Just own it :)

  14. 14 Q. from: United States usyour flag

I totally agree with Aman Ali, although its not about if I agree or don’t, we shouldn’t judge these topics on our own, people who think its halaal or haraam should have some type of daleel to back up their views.

There’s obviously nothing wrong with a family getting together because they have break, however getting together because its thanksgiving and having a turkey and everything is completely following the ways of the non-muslims, pure imitation. There’s a saying that state, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, by imitating the non-muslims are we not saying that we have some type of love for their ways? The Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) (saw) said, “Whoever resembles a people is one of them.” (Recorded by Abu Dawud). Why would ANY Muslim want to take the risk of being like the non-muslims, when this act is so disgraceful in the eyes of the Prophet (saw). And what are we taking this risk for anyway, to eat some turkey?

If any Muslims have doubt on this issue then may I remind you of another hadith, “Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.”

May Allah (SWT) swt guide the Muslims, may he protect us from following the wretched path of the disbelievers. Ameen.

You people need to start using your brains then trying to quote the Quran or some Hadith to figure out what is right and what is wrong.

  16. 16 Q. from: United States usyour flag

Um what? We should think up the rules ourselves instead of looking at the Quran and hadith? How can we have an opinion when the opinion of Allah (SWT) Almighty is before us?
