Help Support a Muslim Filmmaker
Published by Haseeb November 16th, 2007 in Entertainment, Islam, Lena KhanSister Lena Khan, writer and director of “Sleeper Cell” , is currently shooting a new short film. She needs some money to help finance the completion of the film. Mashallah, she is a very talented filmmaker, and I would like to encourage all who can, to please help support her in her efforts:
Dear friends,
As you may or may not know, I am shooting a short film very soon entitled “Bassem is Trying.” If I simply get 50 people to donate $20, or 100 people to donate $10 each, I will have enough to pay for the remainder of the film. Please consider it.
I am asking all of you because it is an unfortunately reality that we don’t have enough Muslim or even socially conscious filmmakers out there. And to get to a point where we have that influence in the media (something that our community also complains out), the community has to sort efforts like this. So please remember, if we are to stop complaining about the media, we have to take steps and put forth time, money, and support to the young filmmakers who are trying to get their foot in the door.
As an extra consideration, this film is in competition to win $5,000 in a low-competition film festival. If it wins, I will return the money to everyone who donated. If you are interested in this (I hope this entices you), please add your address to the paypal listing or otherwise state “Loan” somewhere on the form. If not, I will use the money solely for future projects.
If you are interested, please click here to contribute.
Thank you,
Lena
