Subhanallah, may Allah (SWT) bless and increase Imam Suhaib Webb for his ability to reach out to the youth, as well as Outlandish for their beautiful music with lyrics that most of us actually relate to.

…I wanted to share with you an activity I did with one of Outlandish’s songs and the impact it had on the youth. I was told by a local youth group coordinator that they had issues with the youth making Salah and if i can do a talk on the importance of making Salah. I really did not want to just give usual reminder or talk on Salah so as I was listening to one of outlandish’s songs (Appreciatin) which deals with communication with Allah (SWT) (Salah), I thought i would use it to initiate discussion on the topic.

I started the session with the song and received and overwhelming response from the youth and how they were able to relate to all the lyrics and scenarios in the song. It was one of the best discussions I had ever had with youth on the topic of Salah. There were about 45 youth in the room and the majority of them participated in the discussion. They actually came up with ideas on how to encourage each other to make salah and paired up for fajr.

Their music is a very powerful tool in reminding and engaging the youth!

Imam Suhain understands the need for ‘correct’ use of Music for dawah and communication. But it does not mean he endorses all other rubbish that is out there - and this is the clarity we need. I think this is a great example.

I guess Al-Maghrib is cool with music too.

It will be nice when we stop listening to internet sheikhs.

    Alsalamualikum,

    In response to TJ-

I remember listening to Imam Suhaib’s tafsir of surat Al Hujaraat and at one point he indicated his position on musical instruments, which was negative. Not sure if that is still the case. W’Alahu Alam.
