Looks like a great event. Let me know if you’re going. I’m going to try to make it (although I have an exam that following week)
Islam & Health: Treating Muslims: An Interdisciplinary Perspective
Saturday, November 17, 2007
8:30am - 4:00pm
New York University School of Medicine
401 E. 30th Street, Lecture Hall Schwartz F
New York, NY
The impact Islam, as a tradition, on the health care practices of Muslims serves as an example of how powerful religion impacts health. While the culture and behavior of over one billion Muslims worldwide cannot be represented by simplistic essentialist terms, they share a common religious tradition that is contexualized in distinct times and places. To begin to demonstrate the role of the Islamic tradition on Muslim practices, an interdisciplinary group of academics across the fields of anthropology, ethics, medicine, public policy, religious studies, and sociology will share their thoughts, research, and experiences at this conference at New York University ’s School of Medicine .
Sponsored by The Institute of Social Policy and Understanding
Conference fee: $50 ($20 for students with valid I.D.)
