David Wright on The Daily Show
Published by Haseeb November 1st, 2007 in Daily Show, Mets, SportsI must admit, I was one of those Mets fans booing David Wright back in April. It indeed was a rite of passage, as DW has proven himself to be one of the best players in the game - and unlike many of his teammates - he is clutch and plays with heart.

DW is a great guy. He’s definitely someone you want to build your team around. Unfortunately, the Mets will potentially destroy all that by going after A-Rod.
If they get A-Rod, that means the end of DW as the heart of the team. DW is a potential Jeter-type leader. But A-Rod came to the Yanks with Jeter as their established leader. DW isn’t yet the captain and he is far too young to be respected by veterans.
A-Rod’s arrival at Shea will create a huge circus around A-Fraud. He’s not a team player. He won’t gel with everyone else. He’ll displace DW and make him play some other position.
A-Rod’s star status isn’t commensurate with his leadership capabilities — or lack thereof. That’s the major problem from a player like him and that’s why I bet he’ll never win a championship.
The Mets have a great nucleus and bringing A-Fraud will shatter that — especially with a passive, Joe Torre-like manager like Willie Randolph.
The Yankees have ridden themselves of this mess. Good for them. Bad for the Mets.
Getting A-Rod is like buying to an overpriced mansion with property taxes and maintenance costs so unbearable that after living for years without other furniture (i.e. complementary players) and just paying interest w/ nothing going toward equity (i.e. a ring) you’ll have to sell at a loss (i.e. what the Rangers had to do).
A-rod - Dick Cheany? Damn what an analogy!
