Shaykh Hamza Yusuf is Running for US President!

In a move that will certainly surprise both Muslims and Non-Muslims across the world, according to my sources at the Zaytuna Institute, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf Hanson (Independent), is expected to shortly announce his candidacy for the highest office in the world, President of the United States of America.
Hanson, was born to a Greek Orthodox academic/activist family in Walla Walla, Washington (but raised in Northern California) and converted to Islam at age 17 in 1977. Since then he has gone on to study Islam across the middle east for over a decade, to return to the US to receive degrees in nursing and religious studies. Since then he has served as founder and scholar of the Zaytuna Institute in Hayward California. He has one of the foremost scholars and speakers in the Muslim world particularly in Islamic spirituality and contemporary issues.
While Hanson was known to always be outspoken against American politics, especially foreign policy, he began to get more involved following 9-11. In fact, Hanson advised President Bush shortly after the attacks and in fact was responsible for Bush changing the name of his war from Operation Infinite Justice (which Hanson said was blasphemous to Muslims). And during the 2004 elections, Hanson encouraged all Muslims to vote Bush out of office, in his infamous 2004 ISNA “Anything But Bush” speech .
While he has not been asked to further provide advice to the Bush Administration since 9-11, he has been at the forefront of responding to contemporary issues facing the Muslim world including the so called war on terror & clash of civilizations. Moreover he was one of the leading voices responding to the Denmark Cartoon Controversy and the Pope’s criticism of Islam being irrational.
The 2008 Presidential Campaign is crucial for the future of not only America, but the world. Unfortunately in the past many Muslims have been caught up in debates of whether or not we should even get involved in US politics/government. But given the actions of the current administration over the past 6 years it is clear that we all need to step up and help to change our country’s direction.
We are all so blessed to have Shaykh Hamza step up to the current domestic and foreign climate in his pursuit to become the next US President. Inshallah from that office he will finally be able to make real changes benefitting not only Muslims across the world, and not only Americans here at home, but all humankind across the world. The campain certainly will not be easy but insha’Allah 
with your duas and support we will have the first Muslim president in US History come January 2008.

I would be cautious with this type of humor not only because there is a possibility of this turning into a wild rumor on the Internet, but also because of the hadith related by Abu Hurairah (may God be pleased with him) who reports, “The Sahaabah asked, ‘O’ Messenger of God, you joke with us?’. The Messenger of God (God bless him and give him peace) replied, ‘Yes, I do not say but the truth.’”
