South Asian Basketball
Championship Game

Sunday April 1, 2007 @ 6:00 PM

The Garden School
(33-16 79th St Queens, NY)

The Basketballers The Hitmen
Captain: Naveed Ahmed Captain: Ammad $heikh

I would like to congratulate The Ballers for an amazing double overtime victory tonight.

The ballers almost blew it, having an 11 point lead with only 3 minutes left to go in regulation - the Warriors took a 4 point lead with about 5 seconds left. Nadeem then gets fouled on a 3 point shot attempt. He makes the first 2 and misses the 3rd on purpose - as the warriors fail to grab the board, there is a scramble for the ball. Nadeem grabs the ball and puts up a fadeaway shot with three hands in his face as the buzzer expires… it banks in off the backboard - its good - GAME TIED! The game goes into overtime!

After back and forth action in the 1st and 2nd overtimes. In the 2nd OT, with the game tied, the ballers swung the ball around to nabeel, who drove in baseline, and tried to shoot a floater over the defenders, but was fouled while in the air. He missed the shot, but with .6 left on the clock, he made the first free throw to seal the deal!

Omair finished the game with 23 points, and Nadeem had 21.

(Information regarding the game was provided by Naveed, Raheel, and the SABL Website)

Great game ballers! Now that the stage is set next Sunday night for the finals, I would like to ask that us Ballers fans attend this Sundays game to support our favorite SABL team.

Come show your baller pride this Sunday evening at the Ballers take on the Hitmen for the 2007 SABL Championship.

Wait.. how did the game go into the first overtime??
I believe it was something like this:

With the ballers up by 4, Abdullah (warriors) steals the ball and goes for an easy lay up. Bringing the warriors within 2. Then with Zeeshan Sheikh inbounding, he failed to find an open ‘Baller, so instead of turning the ball over on a 5 second violation, Zeeshan gives Owais Killer (warriors) the ball right in his chest, for an easy lay up that tied the game at 71 with 21 seconds left.

After that, the ballers failed to convert on the last shot, as they turned the ball over. Luckily, their defense stepped up and contested Owais Killer’s jumper with 4 seconds left. Zeeshan got the rebound and launched a chuck that was about 3 feet to the left of the rim.

    Hattin’!

Looking forward to a Hitmen vs. Ballers matchup :)

As far as Raheel on the bench…we can’t all be great at every sport…setup a South Asian Swimming League and Raheel “the eel” Malick will have all of us sitting in the stands.

He was merely pointing out what actually happened…why people gotta reverse hate on the brother?

    Hittin’

True, I was on the stands controlling the clock and not in uniform for any team.

However, I did enjoy your company in the 2nd OT as you fouled out shortly after the first OT began.

    Hackin’

Speaking of the clock… on a serious note… how is that going to work. When is it supposed to stop and when does it keep going ? Whats the deal with the last 2 minutes. I was a b it confused i mean doesn’t really matter to me.. i’ve learned to play till the whistle blows but it gets confusing sometimes.

The refs and ammad told me that for the playoffs, the clock only stops on a whistle. Regardless of how much time is left on the clock (college rule).

The clock management, as far as whoever is controlling the clock, has been weird this entire season. I’ve been told to stop it on a basket under 2 minutes, then told not to stop it.. etc. etc.

I think ammad should make it clear that the clock will not stop on a made basket, and will only stop on a whistle (out of bound, foul, time out, etc.)

You guys played really really well and Zeeshan specifically played his heart out I think 18 rebounds or something crazy like that.

Nabeel with all of those threes and you guys tore apart the zone perfectly with Talha getting those lay ups.

You guys got beat by a lucky chuck so hold your heads up high.
