Dear Wife (Part One):
When you make plans, make plans for two
I’m your wedding planner; I got a plan for you
But Snow White, don’t sleep, we got things to do
First, get outta the club
Not here to dance with you
Hold hands with you
If you want that type of guy
There are many men for you
But if you want my type of guy
You gotta be that girl too
Cuz honestly, I got options
I don’t need to compromise with you
Girl, you’re genetically disposed to be my rose
You’re not genetically disposed to pose in those clothes
So lets put down the curtains
And announce the last show
And if the boys wanna peak
Then the boys need to go
Not looking for another pretty face
Seen too many of those
They’re the type you date
Not the type you propose
Oh, oh, she froze, “woah!
What did he say?
Is he trying to claim
That I don’t have a pretty face”
Naw, that’s not what saying
But from what I’ve seen
Most of those perfect 10 hijabis
Are not what they seem
I mean,
The scarf may be,
a sign, of modesty
But it doesn’t define, modesty
And I’ve met many non-hijabis
That act much more modestly
And as far as your mind
I want it well refined
Let Iqbal put you to sleep
With a nursery rhyme
Most guys want trophy wives,
blue eyes, simple minds, cuddly and sensual
Forget the color of the eyes, I need an intellectual
Cuz simplicities overrated
And put on a false pedestal
And when I look in those eyes
I wanna be Moses on Sinai
Floating, burning, barely alive
Then why should I care if they’re blue, brown, or green
But they gotta be,
A mirror of Eden to me
An ocean I can dive into
And feel spiritually serene
Part 2
Girl, don’t get me wrong
But I was educated in the school of Khalil Gibran
So don’t think you’re gonna complete me
I plan to be complete, before you even meet me
So we can grow like two angels
Independently sound
And divinely bound
And if you’re ever frown
Tough day, you’re down
Girl, I swear
I’ll put the show on
And I’ll be your clown
And you never have to think to yourself,
You can think aloud
I’ll never criticize your thoughts
If you think aloud
A balanced life,
Tonight in the mosque
Tomorrow, a night in the town
Tonight Robert Frost
Tomorrow, Mathnawi and Attar in the clouds
Monet,
Burda and Beethoven
All in the same day
Everyday, a day in heaven,
With God sprinkling his Grace
I know you enjoy my complexity
That’s why I’ll write rhymes, every night,
To put your mind in ecstasy
But hold on, that’s not meant to be taken sexually
Cuz to me, you’re a gift from God
Not a schoolboy fantasy
But for now
Give me my space
And go your own way
I’ll be blind to every other girl
Until I see your face
Like the father of Joseph
My sight will be worthless
Until our wedding day
So just wait,
And become the reflection,
Of what you expect from me
And you’ll be my only love,
Until the end of me
And my soul’s mate in eternity
Disclaimer: this song may just come across as a love song but there is actually a message behind it, so i hope it comes through. Also, i am NOT interested in marriage right now…so this is not a lame scheme to get married via haseeb’s blog.

hmm,
interesting.
I like the Life poem much much better.
“I’m your wedding planner…”
;(

“I got options” (6)
“I’ve met many non-hijabis
That act much more modestly”
“But I was educated in the school of Khalil Gibran”
BarakAllahu feek, it’s SOOOOO good, keep it up
As salaam alaikum.
I don’t know much about this stuff brother. I think it was good but I am more fat than phat.
I’ve posted a poem entitled ‘a Muslim cemetery behind the wall’ today. Come on by for a 30 second read.
Wa salaama,
nuh ibn
“so don’t think you’re gonna complete me
I plan to be complete, before you even meet me”
that was my point in the comment I made on your other piece : )
as for this one…
“Most of those perfect 10 hijabis

….sad but I can say as a fellow hijabi its sooo true…Insha-Allah
u have a gift to write da truth in a way which is so beutiful withour being cheesy…keep up da good work
…soz I meant ‘Masha-Allah
’ ‘Insha-Allah
’ instaed of
“Forget the color of the eyes, I need an intellectual”
My impression is that most brothers are intimdated by smart sisters…
salam
yeah i like that poem.
its the kind of too good to be true kind of poems.
but at least someone is trying.
peace
Oh and this is a Q for all the stupid guys out there, Would it kill you to think like that? :s
salam everyone!
its nice to hear people’s thoughts on my writings…however, i hope people realize that i write for myself not really for people, so when i write something, im not “trying to send a message” as much as im trying to express myself so even though it may seem like a “too good to be true poem”..and i can understand where that sentiment comes from, i really believe that it doesn’t have to be “too good to be true…” so yeah, this is one of my “happier poems” u could say, i felt like i was giving u too much of my jaded or darker side..haha
-saad
the title is dear wife, but the lyrics sound like ur talking to a prospective wifey or something.
its nice.
Walaikum salam
in response to the question bout why i titled it “dear wife” when its talking about a prospective wife..
i did that on purpose, its one of my things. since its already written who we marry, our “wives” and “husbands” are walking on earth, we just don’t know it yet. since it was written in the pre-eternal knowledge of God, its like our Wedding Contract is timeless and thus they are my wife, some day we’ll just both find out that the other was our wife or husband.
anyways, its basicaly just one of my things
This is corny as hell.
hahahahhah!!
its always good to get a guy’s reaction to my poetry…much obliged my man Ali
wow. the recording of the rap is well, rather sad.
and yea, a bit corny.
(and that’s coming from a sister)
salam..
oh well..just to clarify.. the “recording” was actually just done on my computer for the blog so people could understand how the poem flows, its not an “actual recording” of any sort, so thats why it is “rather sad”
as far as the rap being corny, everyone is def entitled to their own opinion…
and i appreciate the honesty…even if its blunt honesty
haha
the poem made me cry! mashAllah.
A for effort?
I’m glad someone pointed out the corniness.
And when I look in those eyes
I wanna be Moses on Sinai
That is indeed conry. Yet, its creative and koo. Obviously sisters are more in tune with this kind of poety, or atleat that what I think. PEACE
hahaha
so the last few comments have concluded with “A for effort” and corniness…lol..i’ll take i’ll take it…that what u get when you make public an overly flower love song…
just a point of advice…alhamdullah im confident bout my writing and don’t take myself too seriously…but muslims should really be careful to not put down people’s effort too harshly cuz i remember when i was young, the muslim community almost made me stop writing…just a thought…me personally, i welcome to critique and negative comments…but its just something to keep in mind, especially with people who are making their writing public for the first time..
thanks for the feedback though..
as far as the moses on sinai line..haha…i dunno..thats one of my favorite lines..so i guess corny is relative to an extent
lol..it was brilliant.
haters are always gonna hate
Go shave your back barrel.
Assalamu Alaikum!
brother, good job. It’s nice to see a brother expressing his feelings. It doesn’t happen as often as us sisters would like. Other brothers should learn from you!
give you a good wife who will be strong in her deen.Ameen.
Masha-Allah
May Allah
and yes Haseeb hater will always hate but as long as you are doing what you’re doing to please Allah
then let the haters hate all they want :). But ofcourse it would be better if they didn’t hate…
Assalamu Alaikum
Please do not mistake hate for an interpretation of corniness. I have nothing but love for my brothers and I applaud people expressing themselves. And if I feel something is corny, that just means I just see it with different angle.
Ali, you da man.
PEACE
it’s romantic, perhaps some girl should propsose to you.
Salaams Bro,
Your poem is excellent. May God grant you goodness and success through your expressions of yearning and love, not for material things, but for the Divine.
And be patient with those of us who need some guidance in understanding your words. I don’t think it’s that your words are too deep, but rather some of our hearts such as mine are too shallow. You continually speak to important issues affecting Muslim-Americans, including marriage and social relations. Please keep it up and help us revive our deep and luminous literary tradition.
ws
oh thanks bro
no no but please don’t think im complaining people thinking its corny…thats TOTALLY FINE…and Jamaica..ALi..whoever else..u are def entitled to your opinion, and i don’t think its hate at all, just read what i said above, i am only saying, be careful with “new writers” cuz i know a lot of your writers are turned off from writing by the Muslim community..
no one has to write comments to make me feel better! haha.. i don’t take my writing that seriously
so u are more than welcome to call this one corny..haha
-saad
oh and about the “maybe some girl should propose to you..” haha..please NO NO…nothing takes away a young brother’s credibility than him writing a song on love and then someone taking it as a way of getting married..haha..thats why i said that before the poem..
im not interested in marriage!
-SAAD
Ok Ok Imam Nawawi we get it lol
I might do the same, i mean by livin in SA I think I have all the good reasons not to
but u know wot u’ve inspired me …
