Assalamu alaykum,
Just a though about ‘April Fools day’ pranks - I know that they are generally considered light hearted fun but as far as I am aware we shouldn’t be lying even in jest.
Also, I’m not sure about this but I read somewhere that the origins of ‘April Fools day’ are something to do with Muslims being ‘fooled’ in Islamic Spain which in some way resulted in many deaths.
Does anyone know what the origins of the tradition are?
I think… I have heard that before too, April fools? hmm,
kinda like where crescants(spell?)came about in France after they drove the muslim out, but many muslims dont care aobut that stuff.
sadly………………………
That whole muslims being fooled in spain thing is a false myth. Its not true, sorry. And check out that post for a long discussion in the comments section on that issue.
Assalamu alaykum,
OK maybe the April Fools day thing about Spain isn’t true. Still isn’t there a hadith where the prophet told us (not sure of exact words) not to make people laugh with what isn’t true. Has anyone heard that?
BTW EID MUBARAK to all Brothers and sisters wherever you are in the world!!
786 is biddah
AA,
There is a story i read in the sirah that goes something like this: The Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) was walking in a the market and passed a sahabah (r). The sahabah (r) didn’t notice him so the Prophet (pbuh) went behind him and picked him up. “Here’s a slave for sale” the Prophet (pbuh) joked and the sahabah responded “whoever has me as a slave is surely at loss.”
So basically this story shows that its ok to “lie” when you joke, but i think the other person should know that ur joking.
