Will Smith - Muslim?

Most of us have heard the rumors of Will Smith converting to Islam while researching for his role as Muhammad Ali for the movie, Ali. However a recent article in USA Today may have just confirmed these rumors:
“I’m 38 years old, and I’m just getting an understanding of what life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness means,” he says….
He’s friends with vocal Scientologist Tom Cruise and attended Cruise’s wedding in Italy. Although Smith has learned about the controversial religion, he has not converted to it. He says he’s a connoisseur of all faiths.
“I want to go on the hajj to Mecca,” [Will] Smith says. “I don’t believe in religious separatism. I love people, and I don’t believe that the twin towers getting knocked down means all Muslims are bad.
“I was raised in a resurrection Baptist church in Philadelphia, and my grandmother was a devout member of the church. The things that I believe are 90% morally what I learned growing up. But the additions that Jada and I have made — we’ve traveled around the world.”
They have been “to India, and United Arab Emirates, and to Jordan and to Jerusalem. We are students of world religions.”

Just to clarify, I’m not claiming Will Smith has converted to Islam. (But we all know only Muslims are allowed to perform Hajj 
)
Smith also is a chivalrous actor, says Mann, who’s also producing Smith’s 2008 release Tonight, He Comes. “A girl on the set makes a move and winds up exposing herself, and out of the corner of your eye, you see Will look away.”
Mashallah, he has already learned to “lower his gaze“. lol.

before we get our hopes up…he said he wants to go to hajj…doesn’t mean he will or he can, but as haseeb noted, can’t go until hes muslim, maybe that’ll serve as an incentive?

I had such a weird dream about Will Smith the other night. It was a school trip to visit his mansion and the class had dinner in his huge dining room but he actually, was giving a sermon in the chapel of his home. Weird right?
Another thing, I do not know how the Saudi Gov, determines whether if you are a Muslim or not. I know converts get a slip saying that they are from the mosque, and most Muslim countries put your religion on your passport, but can they challenge someone for being a Muslim with a name like Will Smith- meaning must he change his name to an Islamic name. I am sure there are born Muslims out there with completely Americanized names so what proof would be needed by the Saudi gov from these people?

I hope this is true, but I don’t know. When I met him in front of my work building in September I said Salaam as I shook his hand, but he didn’t respond, but that could have been cuz of the loud ladies screaming.
If Will Smith becomes muslim or is muslim already, alhumdolillah, that’s wonderful, ma’shAllah. I don’t know why muslims get so excited about celebrities becoming muslims though, he’s just another human being. I don’t see why a video of “Indian Idol” had to be posted, showing women who are improperly dressed and getting excited about such nonsensical songs. But I guess that’s a sad sign of the times. Too many of us look up to these modern idols.

give us the tawfeeq to avoid indian idols and all other idols, ameen.
Actually celebrities becoming muslim is a big thing because since they are so famous they can cause many people to change their perception of islam for the better, so I guess that is something to get excited about. However we shouldn’t get so caught up with the fame of celebrities that we lose focus of what is really important. Allah

My son, Chris, worked as propmaster assistant with Will Smith in Bad Boys Two. Will is a super person. His patriotism is level headed and with a sense of urgency. I would vote for him as President any day, and starting this day.
He has a mind that knows how to take a thesis and its antithesis and synthesize it to lead a divided country. I still remember when he said on TV years ago when he made All the President’s Men” movie: “I am going to become the President of the United States!”
