The rumors have been confirmed. Its true! Outlandish will be performing for the first time ever in North America at this year’s RIS Entertainment Session!!!

hm, interesting, i had heard that there was no concert, but i suppose there is. somewhat tempting to hear them live, but chances are the concert will be lousy. i can picture it now: overpowering music, impossible to follow their flow, etc.
anyway, you know what’s far more amazing? Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah and Habib Ali al-Jifri at the Knowledge Retreat! plus Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir, Dr. Abdul-Hakim Jackson. now that’s what i call a gangsta lineup. who’s coming? i am insha Allah

Does it neccesarily mean that the scholars who are attending RIS5 endorse “Islamic” music/ nasheeds (not sure how instrumental the entertainment is going to be
at RIS but i know some of the performing artists don’t have any barriers when it comes to the type of instruments they use for their material)? Because, increasingly, high profile contemparary scholars and music artists are attending the same events (with good intentions and for good causes ishaAllah). Not forgetting to mention scholars’ audio message clips in nasheed/ music albums (e.g. “Deen You Know” & “Closer Than Veins”).
Does it convey the message to the attendees at such events and muslims in the western world at large that, theologically, music in Islam (or certain types of it) is okay? Do these scholars have responsibilty in curbing some of the alarming features of this emerging nasheed industry?
