NYTimes: A Slam-Dunk in Houston Real Estate

Mr. Olajuwon, who retired in 2002, divides his time between homes in Houston and Amman, Jordan. A Muslim, he has been spending more time in Jordan recently to learn Arabic, the language of the Koran. He already speaks English and Yoruba, a Nigerian dialect. …
Another way Mr. Olajuwon minimizes risk is cash-only transactions. It’s against Islamic law to charge or pay interest so he never seeks outside financing.
“I have been blessed thus far to be able to work with my own capital, which gives me the ability to decide when I want to sell as opposed to having a bank loan hanging over my head that in some cases, can force you to sell even though you may not be ready to,” Mr. Olajuwon said.
(Thanks to The Polemicist for the following vids:)
The NBA was so much better in the mid 90s than now. How i miss Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon!

Slight correction:
Yoruba is a language in its own right not a Nigerian “dialect”. There is no language called Nigerian therefore it cannot have any dialects. Yoruba is the language of the Yoruba tribe.
The awra of the men in this video is showing. Their knees are not covered. Does anyone believe the prophet salallahu alayhe wa salam or the sahaba radee Allahu anhum would run around in clothes like that in public? Shouldn’t they be our dream? Shouldn’t they be our role models? Plus the music that is playing in the background is not islamic, not halaal to listen to.
Then dont watch the video - or listen to the music in the background.
Simple.
Hakeem Olajuwon is quite an example for Muslims to follow. He may not be the perfect model (only Rasulullah (saw) is) - but he has done alot of great things, mashallah.
Then don’t post the video either, simple. Hakeem Olajuwon is a good muslim, ma’shAllah.
Lamb Kabob, you’re hurting my brain.
lamb kabob: please dont visit my site if ur going to criticize everything i post/write. While I appreciate ur attempt to give me sincere nasiha, i respectably disagree with u.
And lets leave it at a difference of opinion. I dont ask u to agree with me- but i ask u to respect this difference of opinion. If you cannot do that, then please dont visit my site anymore.
Jazakallah khair
Woah, wait a minute, I gave you some naseeha in private (I sent him a private email) in a polite manner and instead of replying to that email in private you chose to bring that up here? I’m trying to restrain myself here, subhanAllah! That is just not right. For the record, I have not criticized everything that you post or write. I have just been critical of two posts! That constitutes “everything”????? I am not attacking you at all. Just trying to have a frank discussion here. If you can provide me evidence that it is islamically permissible to post videos where men or women have their awra showing, then by all means please provide me with this daleel. Once again, let me end here by repeating what I said to you in my email, Jazak Allah
Khair for your effort.
I agree with lamb kabob. What’s wrong with pointing out that it is wrong to show the awra of a man or woman? If it is haraam to look at the awra then it is certainly haraam to post videos which show the awra as well.
I didnt get any email. You can contact me personally via the contact form on the Contact Me page.
Im not saying its permissible to look at videos of men with the awra showing. However my blog isnt the forum over which we should discuss what is islamically permissable or not. I am not a scholar and i doubt you are either.
I posted the video because i wanted to share Hakeem Olajuwons illustrious career. Thats all.
And again - i chose to post it. If you have a problem with it - dont visit my site.
The NBA is still nice. And now they cover there awrah.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatu,
u r causing a fitna
’s sight
hakeem at that time might have not been aware of the rules of awra’
he probably does now
so he might hate the fact that vids of him back then are still playing
we are muslims
how ever insignificant it is to prevent evil or forbid it
it is great in Allah
sincere advice
