Global Peace & Unity ‘06

This past weekend, ISLAM Channel (In the UK) sponsored a Global Peace & Unity ‘06 Concert/Conference featuring most of the foremost Muslim music artists and a few scholars as well. The lineup of artists/speakers is quite amazing to say the least.

You can read about Brother Dash’s account of his trip (he was one of the performers) on his blog @ MuslimPoet.com

Moreover, here are some of the performances I gathered on YouTube:

Yusuf Islam - In the End

786 - Dosti

786 - Palestine

Dawud Wharnsby Ali & Zain Bikha - Can’t take it with you

Mesut Kurtis - Burdah

Dawud Wharnsby Ali & Zain Bikha - Allah (SWT) Knows

Sound of Reason

Najam Sheraz featuring 786 - Allahu

Grand Finale (Many singers)

What was the criticism about regarding Saturday’s program?

Most of the people i spoke to likened the saturday night line up and the atmosphere to a pop concert.
they didnt like the fact that people were clapping and sisters were screaming (you can pretty much hear that in the videos) and complained about the free mixing.

Now, i dont agree with sisters screaming at the top of their lungs..but thats not the organisers fault. some artists(like Uncle Yusuf) did request that no one scream after his performance.

Its pretty straightforward though…if people didnt like the music they could have removed themself from the hall. If they didnt like free mixing that was apparently going on then they couldve gone home.

they should try segregating 30,000 people

people always complain about the organisers not segregating enough and allowing the genders to mix, but people should also realise its down to them too-they should sit in the sections marked for thema nd police thier own actions.

I thought the event had more plus points than negative, its a sad fact that people will always complain no matter what!! and we all make mistakes, inshallah we will learn from it and next year will be even better! I thought the speeches by Dr. Zakir Naik, Yousaf Estes, Sohaib Webb and Yasir Qadi and my fav Yvonne Ridley were fantastic (especially the private lectures/workshops they held). And look at the number of people that took the shahada on stage and back stage (around 18 people i believe), SubhanAllah! A member of the Islam channel team even paid the travelling expense for a non-muslim woman to fly over from Germany as she could not afford it…and the result…she too gave a shahada!

    A/salam

I attended both days and I have to say despite some lax in the organisation it was an altogether enjoyable weekend. with regards to the free mixing - the organisers announced over and over again the seating plan (sisters on side, brothers on the other etc.) people chose to ignore it!!

Yes, the clapping and screaming from some people was unwarranted and did put a dampener on things. if everyone would take care of their own behaviour and actions such problems wouldn’t arise.

but a good 2 days nonetheless.
