The Polemicist: The Launch of Al-Jazeera in English
Published by Haseeb November 15th, 2006 in Current NewsThe Polemicist : An Early review of Al Jazeera’s new English-language channel
…the news reports are far different from what you’d receive on a CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and possibly even BBC. The amount of information provided in the reports is great. Correspondents speaking live not only provide dense reports, but speak from centers of daily human activity (e.g. an active street corner in Harare) and extreme suffering (e.g. a Darfur refugee camp or on top of a destroyed Palestinian home). Issues aren’t dealt with peripherally, nor at simply an elite level. There is a strong attempt to tangibly animate human strife and suffering, whether it is in terms of inflation (and, for example, the real going rate for Zimbabwean currency in the black market) or the emerging malnutrition crisis in Gaza. Ultimately what I’ve come away with is a strong sense of humanism from AJI’s news reports. This could very well be ‘the people’s’ news network.

You made my owl cry ;(
finally, in English:
tell the world what the real situation is in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, in the Muslim world most importantly.
Hey they are all British accented folks, awesome, yo!
now the world will know what’s really going on.
JazakaAllah khair for all those that made this possible
Come to Stony Brook’s Islam and the media conference this Saturday and you’ll get to talk to Al-Jazeera’s Senior producer.

wow, good stuff. I hear that the cable networks in the US aren’t carrying it yet bc they want to see what reaction will be before carrying it. Hopefully itll be here soon because this is really incredibly professional looking! It even puts CNNs “situation room” aka room with 12 tv’s in the background, to shame! All this even after being purposefully targeted over the past few years by US jets and tanks (separate occasions).
looks good, sounds good. I wonder of dish-network offers it.
yeah Aljazeerah rocks, Asaad Taha s the best there n f u don’t know him yet, then u’ve bn missin a lot…A LOT.
