M.E.C.C.A - Muslim Education & Converts Center of America - is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing new Muslims with the essential educational and support services they need. As many of you may know, alhamdulillah there are a lot of people becoming Muslim in the U.S., but what you may not know is that many of those Muslims end up struggling to find the right education and personal support that they need at a very crucial time of transition. A strong, systematic method for educating and emotionally and spiritually supporting new Muslims is missing from our communities and MECCA is trying to address this need.

MECCA is starting a twelve week course at NYU which consists of two classes/discussion groups: a ‘Basics of Belief and Practice’ class and a ‘Living Islam’ class. The former addresses all the educational aspects of Islam - the basics of worship and daily living - the essential knowledge that every Muslim needs. The latter addresses the various social aspects of being a (new) Muslim - everything from how to deal with friends and family that may be hostile to Islam (for new Muslims this is often a big issue) to basic Muslim social etiquette and money matters (and a lot more). In addition MECCA will serve as a way for new Muslims to network and form support groups, as well as assist each new Muslim by assigning them a Mentor who can be there to guide them every step of the way.

Here’s what MECCA needs help with:

1) Let any new Muslims you come across know about what MECCA have to offer (you can refer them to the website or to me).
2) If you are interested in teaching a class or being a mentor or getting involved in any way, please get in touch with me (and check out the website - meccacenter.com)
3) MECCA needs your donations! You can donate online on our website and any amount will really help. If you can only donate $10 dollars, alhamdulillah. If you can donate less, or more, alhamdulillah. It takes money to keep the organization going in as professional a manner as possible, and your help will be greatly appreciated, not to mention spiritually beneficial for you insha Allah . Your donations are also tax deductable so that’s also a plus.
