Cliff Floyd on NLCS Roster; Mets vs. Cards Preview
Published by Haseeb October 11th, 2006 in Sports
Tonight, the NLCS begins. St. Louis Cardinals come to town to face us in Game 1. The Mets are expected to win this series, but then again expectations mean nothing in the world of sports. Only 3 out of the 19 so called ESPN Experts have picked a team CURRENTLY ACTIVE in the Championship Series (either AL or NL) to win the World Series! And even the lone expert who predicted the Mets to win it all (which they will, inshallah), picked El Duque to be the World Series MVP. lol
The only issue over this game was whether or not Cliff Floyd would be on the Mets NLCS Roster. He was injured pretty bad back in Game 3 against the Dodgers (reaggrevating his hurt achilles), and it doenst look like he will be anywhere near 100% for the rest of the season. Nonetheless, Cliff Floyd is a warrior. He has been swinging the bat exceptionally well this post season (4-9; 1 HR, 3R). Nonetheless, his mobility in the outfield and on the bases is a concern.
As of yesterday, it was unlikely that Floyd would make the cut. Even on his blog, Cliff stated:
You just have to face the truth sometimes, ugly as it is. I know there’s a chance I may not play, a chance that I may not even be in the roster because of this Achilles. What am I going to do? I don’t know anything for sure.
…I’ve got to be able to do my job in the outfield and on the bases. As much as I want to play and help us win, I wouldn’t want to be the reason we lose -– because I can’t run.
…So yeah, I know I may be out of there. But I’ll be there rooting. These are my boys. D. Wright, I have to be there for him, help him get through all this. I know he wants to say he’s outgrown me, that he doesn’t need Cliffie. I don’t make him carry my bags anymore, but he’s still my little guy. Bad leg or not, I gotta look after my little guy.
So today, the final NLCS rosters were announced, and yes, Alhamdulillah, Floyd was indeed on the roster - and on top of that he will be starting tonight in Left Field! Its great to see him in action, i just hope he stays healthy inshallah! This guy’s got alot of heart, and Im sure David Wright as well as all the rest of the Mets, and us fans, are proud of him for playing through such pain.
As far as the rest of the series go, I predict Mets will win in 5 or 6. (I really dont have much faith in Oliver Perez starting game 4… :(, but overall our offensive will overcome!)
This is our team. This is Our Time. World Series, here we come! Inshallah!
