Softballers 21-7; SASL Playoff Brackets

Another great day of action for the Softballers, in which we went 2-0, however were dealt another devastation loss in terms of injuries.

First the good news. We went on to defeat the Hustlaz (minus Eddy and Mike – who were out due to suspensions) 12-4. Farhan led the game with 6 RBI I believe (stats to be verified). The top of the lineup (Usman (4-4), Farhan (4-4), Naveed (3-4) played phenomenally, as usual.

Game 1 MVP: Farhan Quereshi

In the second game, we defeated Damage Inc. in a nail-biter, 7-6. It was a close game, with the lead changing several times. In the bottom of the 6th, we were down 5-4 until Raheel came up to the plate. He hit a bases-clearing 2RBI TRIPLE to opposite field bringing in both the game tying and game winning runs. Zak then followed Raheel with a hit bringing him home to give us the 7-5 lead. In the top of the 7th, Damage scored hit after hit against the softballers Defense. They managed to score 1 run. The score was 7-6 when in the final inning with the bases loaded and 1 out, Damage had the opportunity to come back and not only tie but take the lead. However Usman Ghumman made a devastating catch running into shallow center field from deep in right-center field, not only crushing the hopes of a Damage comeback, but also crushing Farhan Quereshi with a hard collision. In fact, Farhan’s right knee (the same knee he injured in a collision with Talha Ghumman (yes relation – Usman’s younger brother) slammed into Usman’s left femur. Usman, although bruised, was fine after the collision. After Farhan was walked off the field and replaced by Zak, with two outs to go, Damage hit a hard hit into center field bouncing in front of Usman. One run scored before Usman made a rainbow throw to Atif Khan (our catcher) who tags out the potential game-tying run at home! An amazing game! Great win!

Game 2 MVP: Raheel Malick

And that very game culminated the SASL 2006 Regular Season. Next week the playoffs begin! Here are the playoff brackets (along with my predictions):

You guys don’t think I read this stuff?
    How preposterous.

You forget to mention that Shock held into 1st place and became division champs.
You forget to mention that we broke Damage Inc’s winning streak last week.

You also forget that we ended with 23-5 record and Softballers with 21-7.
You can say that numbers don’t mean anything, but what if the shoe was on the other foot, then what?

    Need I say more?

  8. 8 Haseeb from: United States usyour flag

oh man, no disrespect to the shock

Yes Shock won the division. They finished the SASL season with the best record, 23 wins and only 5 losses (3 of those losses were against the Softballers 8) )!

  9. 9 KhaLed from: United States usyour flag

oh well, those are just numbers ;)

if the bracket goes thru as predicted…..when will the game be between the Shock and the Softballers…..thats 1 that i wanna watch

  11. 11 Raheel from: United States usyour flag

Atlanta Braves won 14 consecutive division titles… 1 championship.

    Divisions mean nothing :)
Although my prediction… either Softballers or Shock will lose in the 2nd round. I doubt it would come down to #1 and #2 in the finals.

    Raheel,
this is not the MLB, You can’t compare paid professionals who are heavily endorsed with amateurs who come out once a week.
