ST PETERSBURG, Russia, July 17 (Reuters) - A microphone picked up an unaware U.S. President George W. Bush saying on Monday Syria should press Hizbollah to “stop doing this shit” and that his secretary of state may go to the Middle East soon.

Bush was talking privately to British Prime Minister Tony Blair during a lunch at the Group of Eight summit in St Petersburg about an upsurge of violence in the Middle East, not realising a microphone was transmitting what he said.

“I think Condi (Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) is going to go pretty soon,” Bush said.

Blair replied: “Right, that’s all that matters, it will take some time to get that together.” Rice said on Sunday she was thinking of going to the Middle East if it would help.

Blair said Rice has “got to succeed” if she goes to the region. Bush replied: “What they need to do is to get Syria to get Hizbollah to stop doing this shit.”

The U.S. president blames Syria and Iran for supporting Hizbollah guerrillas operating in southern Lebanon.

Bush also seemed to complain about U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan wanting an immediate ceasefire to stop the violence between Israel and Hizbollah.

“I don’t like the sequence of it,” Bush said. “His attitude is basically ceasefire and everything else happens.”

Blair said: “I think the thing that is really difficult is you can’t stop this unless you get this international presence agreed.”

G8 leaders, in a statement on Sunday, suggested the U.N. Security Council should consider an international security and monitoring presence along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Later, Bush said he felt like telling Annan to telephone Syrian President Bashir Assad “and make something happen”.

“We’re not blaming Israel and we’re not blaming the Lebanese government,” he said.

The two leaders also appeared to chat about the Doha Round of world trade talks, stalled by lack of common ground among governments on farm subsidies and intellectual property rights.

“I just want some movement. Yesterday I didn’t see much movement, the desire to move,” said Bush.

“It may be that it’s impossible,” Blair replied.

Ultimately Blair noticed the microphone and hastily switched it off, but not before the recording had reached news media.

In the chummy conversation between long-time allies, Bush teased the British leader about a sweater Blair had apparently given him.

“Thanks for the sweater, it was awfully thoughtful of you. I know you picked it out yourself,” Bush said.

“Oh, absolutely,” said Blair.

    hi
firstly hizbollah is a resisitance group which fight against occupation
israel kill thousands of peole in lebanon and in palestine so we have to resist and to fight them as our Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) teaches us to help our brothers and sisters in everywhere
so we can not blame hizbollah and it should not stop its actions until all prisoners are released from israeli jails
but what seems to be ridiculous and strange that all the world talk about 3 soldiers from israel and ” the international community” forget about nearly 10.000 prisoners in palestine and hundreds in lebanon in israeli jails.
so , we have all the right to resist against occupation and to get either “nasr” or” shahada fi sabil Allah (SWT)
may Allah (SWT) bless you all

The fact is the June 25 capture of the Israeli soldier was retaliation for Israel’s actions.

According to the reasoning of many pro-Israel supporters, Hamas had the right to rain down thousands of missiles on Israel for the June 24 kidnapping of the brothers from Gaza.

On June 24, when Israel seized two Palestinians in “the first arrest raid in the territory since Israel pulled out of the area a year ago” the American mainstream media was silent.

“Israel abducted the two Gaza civilians, a doctor and his brother. We don’t know their names. You don’t know the names of victims. They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That’s Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that’s well known; the first abduction is not.”

A question for those who support retaliation, now that you know the facts, do you support Hamas’ retaliation against Israel?

And the June 24 kidnapping of the brothers from Gaza wasn’t the first action against the Palestinians in recent weeks.

    * On June 8, the Israeli army assassinated the recently appointed Palestinian head of the security forces of the Interior Ministry, Jamal Abu Samhadana, and three others.

    * On June 9, Israeli shells killed seven members of the same family picnicking on Beit Lahiya beach. Some 32 others were wounded, including 13 children.

    * On June 13, an Israeli plane fired a missile into a busy Gaza City street, killing 11 people, including two children and two medics.

    * On June 20, the Israeli army killed three Palestinian children and injured 15 others in Gaza with a missile attack.

    * On June 21, the Israelis killed a 35-year old pregnant woman, her brother, and injured 11 others, including 6 children.

    * Then came the Israeli capture of two Palestinians on June 24, followed by the Palestinian capture of the Israeli soldier and the killing of the two other soldiers.

After the beach deaths, Hamas, the ruling party in the Palestinian Authority, broke an 18-month ceasefire and joined other militant groups in firing Kassam rockets into Israel. The Financial Times reported on June 23 that the missiles, principally targeted towards the Israel town of Sderot, have caused damage and some casualties but no fatalities in the recent barrages. A June 29 Guardian leader noted that the home-made Kassam rockets are “not in the same league as Israel’s hi-tech (though not always accurate) weaponry”

But you supporters of massive retaliation, now that you know the facts, you support massive retaliation against Israel for all the Israeli actions PRIOR to June 25.

May Allah (SWT) protect those who are innocent and being oppresed and may Allah (SWT) (swt ) destroy the OPPRESSORS. This is once again another reminder to all the Muslims around the world rallying and protesting doesnt really help, Because behind your backs they are still against you. The only Solution to this problem is sincere repentence to Allah (SWT) (swt) for all of our individual short comings. May Allah (SWT) (Swt) give strength to the Deen of Allah (SWT). Always remeber brothers islam is always victorious this religion has been here for over 1400 years and cant be wipped out.

    ^Exactly

No matter how hard they push, we cannot be moved. They have been trying since the beginning to destroy the Arabs, the Muslims, to conquer the land bit by bit. They just keep pushing but look back and see we have and always will prevail, because of our faith. Faith in our Creator, in our brothers and sisters, in ourselves.

    To Usman:

Protest may not be effective as we want, but they do get attention and if it is large enough it does generate a lot of media play. It worked for Women Rights, African-American rights, Indian rights with the British Empire, Guyanese rights with the British empire and many others. A difference between there protets and ours is that they were non-violent while the opposing side was violent thus no matter what the media said, it looked like the non-violent protesting people were the good guys. We have a problem with extremist Muslims who are making us look like the bad guys. The Muslims in the Muslim world should be by these extreme Muslims (Al Qaeda, Osama, etc.) that is against the true teachings of Islam.

We can beg for repentence all we want, but nothing will change if you don’t get up and do something. Also many of these protets are organized by non-Muslims. If all the Muslims were not to participate, the non-Muslims who actually have a mouth and more power then most Muslims see that Muslims don’t really care and aren’t joining them, they’ll give up there fight. Protests may not effect congress that much, but if it effects the people of America and the world, maybe future protets will generate larger participants and soon it will be heard by congress.

Never underestimate the power of Dua and never understimate the power of the people.

Faith AND action (lawful action), inshallah.

As John Stewart said later that evening, were lucky he was on topic.

I just found it really sad that Fox News spread the word of it being a “World War III” and CNN and MSNBC coppied, within mins, their subtitles changed to “World War III?!”

May Allah (SWT) (swt) forgive those who are affected by these unconfortable times.

how long did it take them to realise the mic was on? wasn’t their voices booming around the hall or something?
Neway something which I found really funny when i was reading this post in br. Haseeb’s page was at the bottom there was a google ad entitled ‘Cheap flights to Israel’, LOL what an irony!

  14. 14 Thomas Paine from: United States usyour flag

Here’s some common sense for the masses. Protests obviously do work because they have worked for hundreds of years. Its not like 1 protest = sudden increase in rights. If it were that easy, no one would ever have any problems. It takes some effort to accomplish things in life and while dua may be useful, id rather people complement it with some reality based action as well.

To the first responder who was talking about how the hezbollah are ‘freedom fighters’ what planet are you living on? Israel is DESTROYING lebanon and your saying that somehow, this is actually Hezbollah helping their brothers and sisters and fighting the occupation?? I wonder, have they gained anything for their brothers and sisters? Or have they brought destruction on the nation that was giving them shelter?
If I was living next to Israel and their 50 nuclear warheads, Id rather hezbollah would stay far away from israel rather than try to ‘free’ my nation (which is westernized and doing well for the past 20 years).

But hey, some people just need that feeling of being oppressed…(naacp)

This is the issue at hand we seemingly forget that Allah (SWT) (swt) himself swore to protect this deen once we all change on an individual level the non muslims will follow suit, Because it is the blessing of our beautiful prophet that whoever follows his way completly people are amazed at them and aspire to reach such states. And for those of you who think this is B.S. read some storys of how people became Muslim just by seeing the dealings and fair trades, and courtesy of the muslims…. Protesting in general might have worked for african rights, womens rights, but this is not the way of our deen.In the Kalimah we recite we negate everything but the power of Allah (SWT)… This therefore includes the power of NUMBERS of people….. And if you think that Dua isnt enough we have stories in the Quran and Ahadith that proclaim the same situation for example the story of Abraha when he came with his Army to destroy the Kabbah what did the people of the kabbah do ??… They didnt stand with boards to convince the Armies to turn back they said do what you can and went to the Mountains and made Dua… And what happen the help of Allah (SWT) came down… The state that the Muslims are in is not a lack of Numbers its a Lack of Quality….. Remember this world is a testing ground for humans….All these sighns are here for us to WAKE UP we should make shukur that Allah (SWT) is not sending his Punishment down and still is giving us this chance to turn back because Allah (SWT) himself says ( Something to the affect ) that if you dont learn yourselfs then Allah (SWT) will send down calamities to wake the muslims up…. And people ask why is this happening that the non muslims seemingly have the upper hand becauase this is there PARADISE…. For a mumin this is a prison… Soo dont forget my brothers Dua is the weapon of the Muslim… our Iman is soo weak walahi i prayed jummah this passed friday and during the khutba the imam said ” We have to call on the American people to stop Isreal” Mashallah calling on the American people in the house of Allah (SWT) asking other then his help…Allah (SWT) is great and high and he holds power over all things !!!

It is so sad that the western-world is doing nothing to prevent this blod shed!
Civilaze country rather talk than going to war, but no, Israil is fed up and now they want to destroy the poor and powerless Lebno which can’t protect itself…
They say that Syria and Iran are helping HIzbollah and rearming them, then way dont Israil attack them…? Just because they have the sourse to defend theirself and are able to shoot down their planes…`?
I find it very strange that whoe world is silint and passiv and doing nothing to prevnet Israils terror..
    best regards
