World Cup Weekend

By popular demand, i will finally write something about the World Cup Soccer Tournament.
To be honest, im not much of a soccer fan. Generally, the games are very low-scoring, and there isnt any American league to follow (MLS sucks). I am more of a baseball/softball, basketball, football kind of guy. But I am surprised at how closely so many friends and family members of mine are to world cup soccer. My dad even took half days off, went to work late, etc. on days when world cup soccer action took place. So I couldnt help but watch some games, and yes, now i admit, soccer is pretty cool. The World Cup is probably one of the greatest sports tournaments ever (you guys picked it in my last poll). The entire world is so riled about about the world cup finals and it means soo much to the countries involved. So many of my friends were heartbroken when Brazil lost.
Anyways, I am hoping Italy defeats France (although i like that Zidane guy). Lets go Italia!
You should be rooting for France,two of the players are Muslim, Zidane and Ribery is a new-convert.

Viva La France!… Zidane will kick those boring and whining Italians’ backside and win the Cup! Italians are the best in diving and feigning injury… but their defence does scare me though (Cannavaro and Gattuso are crazy and they have the best goal keeper in the world in Buffon)… Henry, Zidane and Ribery will have to work extra hard to get a goal…
Italy is a lot better than anyone had suspected. Even though I still disagree with that one Italian penalty kick against Germany. ITALY!

Italy didnt have any penalty kicks against germany from what i recall, only Australia.
italy doesnt play dirty, they just have one of the greatest defenses in the world. Well… theyve had a defensive strategy since the very beginning really.
Go France! Even though Zidane is a non practicing muslim, I think he’s an awesom footballer so France MUST win.

If he, Ribery and Henry played for Italy then I would have been rooting for them but sorry pal…
Mr. nayyer, you seem to have a thing for Zidane. He’s a good player no doubt, but hes no Ronaldo [even though hes not on the Italian side]. And by the way, Italy will win because their defence is superb, 23 saves by their goalie in these events. And ontop of that, they like to stay behind the median more often and don’t bring the ball out as often. I geuss thats their secret.
Haseeb, you finally get to see why I love soccer so much. Viva la France…france is gonna rock Italy….i hope. Italy has a very strong defence. I hope italy makes the final a interesting game to watch. So far i liked how they scored and attempted at score at the world cup. But they are usually boring and not fun to watch. Watch out for Pirlo, Cameronesi from Italy and Ribery, Malouda and of course zizou from france.

salman, Ronaldo (i am assuming ur r talking about ronaldo from portugal) is terrible… u can’t compare him with Zidane.. in the world cup not only he dived and cheated, he also continuosly complained to referee to send off other players (rooney from england for example!!!). Zidane is a very dignified player.
I am guessing 1-0 to france in the final against italy.

Oui, allez les bleus!!! Now Germany is 3. and France will be nomber 1. I really hope France wins not only because I think France plays better, I also want to get some sleep this night and that will be impossible if Italy wins in the evening

This is so amazing… im speechless… im so happy… i have tears in my eyeyes, i feel liek crying… finally after 1982… after sitting through Baggio’s miss in 1994 we are AGAIN CHAMPIONS.

Long game…going all the way to penalty kicks. Wow. I was rooting for Italy for no good reason except I liked their uniforms more. Yay Italy!
Such a bummer. I’m still upset about Zidane ending his career on sad note.
Henry is also Muslim, which I didn’t know. France improved so much in the 2nd half, dominating the game throughout after that. Tough loss.
It was also reported in media outlet that the handful of Muslim players on the team are going to Umrah after this.

hi, as you see, italy now is the champion of the world. i would thanks salman husayni for his ” italian doesnt play dirty”, its true! we have a great team and a lot fans in all the world: VIVA ITALIA!!! , i also want to said that i love the france and i hope one day to live here ( sorry 4my elementary english but the italian is perfect, if someone whant talk with me in italian…i’m here!)

can i just say its FOOTBALL, not soccer.
Was sad to see see zidane ending his career as it happened, but good to see the french didnt turn against him, and it doesnt seem to have tainted his career one bit, and by all accounts materazzi deserved it!
Inshallah he will return for euro 2008, and treat us all to some of that magic.
btw henry is not muslim unfortunately. inshallah one day.
