Does Islam Present a Program for World Domination? - Imam Zaid Shakir
Published by Haseeb May 12th, 2006 in Events, Islam, US Politics
Our beloved scholar, Imam Zaid Shakir, is currently teaching a course titled Looking Back to Look Ahead (Contemporary Studies in Classical Islamic Political Theory) at the Zaytuna Institute. This course is actually a series of free special lectures examining classical Islamic political theory, its basis, its evolution, the major issues it attempts to resolve, and its implications for our current situation. Each lecture will examine a contemporary issue in light of that theory. Lectures include:
1. Does Islam Present a Program for World Domination?
2. An Islamic View of Suicide Bombings
3. Rights and Responsibilities of Muslim Minorities
4. The Islamic Basis for World Peace
The first lecture was recently released on the Zaytuna Institute Knowledge Resource (ZIKR) Podcast. I highly recommend you listen to this lecture. For instructions on how to download this file with iTunes, please read the Zaytuna Podcast Website.
May Allah
continue to bless Imam Zaid and grant him the strength and wisdom to continue in his truly essential work for our community.

I wouldn’t say Islam would dominate, more like show the world the right way to become more enlightened, better human beings make a better world;)
Haseeb, your site has been spoken about on a few south african blogs, as far back as 5 weeks. you’re becoming famous dude!
mashallah on your site. jazak Allah
khier!!! great information, great resources. truly a great site that ppl benefit from.
this is something that i need to listen to
I pray that Allah
keeps us all humble … Bro remember with every compliment the Shaytan is gonna try to tear you down and make you proud… and it’s very very serious.
but once again kid..Jazaak Allahu khair!!!
I was going to check this out this weekend Insh’Allah
. I posted notes I took for one of his other lectures that I found real interesting on my blog if anyone wants to check that out. His views are really something Mash’Allah
, in the sense of analyzing the problem and then proposing a solution… now if people only listened.
I am new to this site, and would very much like to read this article/lecture without listening to it as a podcast. If this option is available, I apologize for not seeing that here.
I believe that non-Muslims need to be able to read the positive statements that I am led to believe are in this article/lecture. Not to convert them/us, but to help people understand that not all Muslims want to preach violence or conduct terrorism.
I hope you understand that for many who knew nothing about Islam before 9/11, there is a lot of uncertainty, and misconception. In reading the Quran and books on the Quran, I see that there can be a lot of room for misunderstanding. I believe moderate groups of Muslims need to be speaking out and showing the world that there are so many more Islamic groups than those who follow Osama Bin Laden and his type.
If I have intruded here, I apologize.
haseeb, thanks for this, hopefully i’ll find the time to listen to them all.
does anyone know if there is video of these lectures? the Zaytuna site seems to indicate that there is, and the camera in front of Imam Zaid in the picture would suggest so, but i dont know how to access it.
Debbie: You have not intruded at all and I am glad you are speaking up and are willing to learn about Islam, and not what extremists have made up.
Zaytuna Institute seems to be presenting all of their videos and lectures through podcast now. I havent used itunes until now, only to listen to their audio. Its very simple to use…just download itunes from the mac site and then subscribe to their podcast and download that specific lecture.
If you would like I can transcribe the lecture into pdf for you to read. Keep in mind that this particular lecture is almost 2 hours long so I wouldn’t be able to have it for you right away but perhaps within the week.
Zaytuna is a very moderate, intelligent institute. They would be a good place to start. Let me know personally if you have any questions. e-mail: jkvalko (at) gmail (dot) com
Take care and peace.
Oh and one more thing: I would suggest getting itunes for the sake of the Zaytuna lectures only because they are so good. They are directed towards Muslims and non-Muslims.
You can also see older audio and video on their website. They also have interesting and articulate articles that pertain to some issues you are wrestling with.
Again, let me know if I can be of assistance.
yo I am gonna be straight up
If Islam dominates the world, all the entertainment that I enjoy would probably be gone. No more gangsta rap, no more entertaining movies, no more violent videogames… Just anasheed and iqra tv all day every day. I’m cool with things the way they are.
but heaven is probably not gonna have gangsta rap or videogames either…
damn, i need to stop thinking about this
No, don’t transcribe the lecture just for me. I thought maybe it was already and I just overlooked the link. I will download it to itunes, no problem. But thank you for the generous offer.
Wat up Debbie,
This blog is wayyy better then me (regarding Muslim views). If you think my views were good, Haseeb’s 100 times better then mine and more intellectual.
Med school student (Haseeb) vs. Undergrad Party’er (me)
Program for world dominance? Did i just miss the train to lala land or what?
Smokey Bear is a persona and like many persona’s does not represent the views of the person behind the persona. I would like those of you who dont know who Smokey Bear truly is to know that alot of these comments are meant to provoke and entertain….and as a matter of fact Smokey Bear was retired till it was requested by someone who will be unmentioned that he return.
World domination? I thought that this kind of insanity was uniquely attributable to American imperialism.
