Tonight, I finally got the chance to head down to Shea as the Mets hosted the Brewers. While we had to endure a 90 minute rain delay, it was worth it, as the Mets held on to beat Milwaukee 4-3. What a game, what a team. Were just amazing!!!
The truth is, that Ive put off this post for a while as I dont want to jinx the Mets… but i cant help but write about the team with the BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL, MY NEW YORK METS (8-1).
What can I say… in fact, nothing needs to be said, the record and the mets’ play on the field speaks for itself. David Wright (although he unfortunately ended his season-starting 8 game hit streak earlier tonight) is playing at an MVP level and at this pace, will definitely win the NL MVP (AS I PREDICTED BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED)! Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, LoDuca, and Nady have been playing as well as, or better than I have predicted!. (Beltran-Delgado-Wright, is by far the best 3-4-5 hitting lineup in the majors) And although Floyd has been off to a slow start, but this veteran is sure to pick it up as the season progresses. Second Base is still iffy. But Hernandez is definitely solid at Defense at 2nd.
As far as pitching goes, even though Pedro no longer has the power he once had, he is still one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and still has some nasty stuff. He may even win the Cy Young this year. Tom Glavine is also pitching exceptionally well, in fact tonight at Shea, he had 11 Ks in less than 7 innings! Bannister and Trashcel have also exceeded expectations in their starts. Zambrano, although 1-0 hasnt pitched nearly as well as his colleagues. Relief pitching is another story, aside from Wagners first blown save, hes been awesome since. (Great 1-2-3 work tonight!). Sanchez also has added some great innings. Jorge Julio and Aaron Heilman, have not been playing as expected thus far.
My Mets so far: Not perfect.. yet
To be honest, all we need (barring injury, of course) is a fifth starter to replace Zambrano, an extra relief pitcher or 2 (jorge julio sucks), and a second baseman. Other than that, the METS are amazin’. There is nothing to show that the Mets wont continue on their winning ways. Althought I dont expect the Mets to continue at this pace and go 144-18. (Which would be a new record), but they definitely will go at least 101-61 (as I predicted) and will win the NL East. We have the best team in all of baseball talent-wise and have developed chemistry far faster than even I could imagine.
And its not just this year that we should win the world series. Wright, Reyes, Bannister, and company are the centerpieces of not only a world series championship team, but a new dynasty.
The Yankees may have been the team of the 90s, but the Mets are the team of the 21st century! The future is NOW with the mets.
And for all you Mets haters out there who will write stupid one-liner comments (26 championships vs 2, or that the Mets bought their team (We still have HALF the payroll of the yankees, and 5th in all of baseball), or what not, i think its time for you to swallow your pride and face the facts. You had your time, I really hope you Yankee fans enjoyed ur dominance in NYC baseball over the past 15 years or so, but the Mets are not only the new best team in New york, but the best team in baseball. And thats the bottom line, and there aint a damn thing you yankee freaks can do about it!

It would be foolish to have anything but praise for the Mets. I am a Yankee but this Met team has impressed me a great deal. If that staff holds on, they’ll be in good shape this year with the lineup they have. Maybe I have softened up. I actually do want the Mets to do well. Die-hard fans like Haseeb have patiently waited for a team to be proud of. And this team doesn’t look like its sinking any time soon. However, we are still only 9 games into the season. Haseeb, you can really talk smack if they are like 37-13 after 50 games. PEACE
The Mets are doing good, but you get too easily excited - you remind me of a woman who is about to meet Brad Pitt.
I must say, that was a great game. The pitching was quality and was definitely what kept the Mets ahead. Also, your loud cheering and enthusiasm were quite entertaining. Haseeb, I think you have recruited a new Mets fan…
Go Mets!
the rangers aren’t doing too bad either…and i don’t mean a texas baseball team, either…
Seriously bro, you do get easily excited. And for some reason you can never talk about the Mets without mentioning the Yankees. Why is that?
Usman, I can’t believe you used the term “praise.”
Easily excited?.. Please… you guys know how much of a Mets fan ive been all my life. Turn on your TVs, watch some METS games. That is how baseball is meant to be played.
o yea, and the Yankees suck.
here come the BRAVES!!!!
Like I said, the guy can’t talk about the Mets without mentioning the Yankees.
PS. I got the MLB standings on my blogspot site, but for some reason I can’t get them on my Wordpress sidebar. Which widget did you paste that iframe code in?
I’m going to give you a wedgie in front of your boyfriend David Wright, you chewbacca look alike
9 games only
Ima have to go with the Oakland Athletics in the American League…national league is kinda boring, sorry brother

jorge julio! hes a crappy version of armando benitez. i didnt understand the trade then, def dont do now. imagine how much better off we would be with benson at the back end of the rotation and zambrano in long relief. heilman is a starter in the prime of his career (hes 27) wasting his time in the bullpen. id try to get get whatever reliever i could for zambrano and julio and put heilman back in the rotation. having said that…im cautiously thrilled with the rest of the team…haseeb, we should catch a game sometime.
yea Rooqdawg, praise might have been a little excessive. PEACE
9-2
Your embarassing Mets fans “everywhere”. If people start talking about dynasties for the 21ST CENTURY, 10 games into a 160 game baseball season, you’re just showing how little Mets fans know about baseball…damn i hate that borough
Wow, in my lifetime I’ve barely met any of my brown brethren who were into Baseball. Anyhow, METS are doing really great this season (so far), even though one my team’s players kinda sold us out (Beltran). But being a New Yorker many many years ago, my love of the Mets was at a high point during the late mid 80s. Yea, I was young, but man, that team was unforgettable. I still have a buncha baseball cards, and perhaps even a set of the METS team somewhere from 86-89. Strawberry, Wilson, Orosco, Ojeda, Cone, Gooden, Carter, Dykstra, Elster… sheesh.
