A BBC News special highlighting young Iraq veterans against the war. These veterans are upset and angry because of what they were asked to do in “the name of freedom” and false “patriotism”.

“We are not against them, the soldiers who fought against them are not against them [the Iraqis/ Arab people] … We were sent there to do this job… We didnt like doing it, we just did what we had to do to survive. We know it was wrong, and we’re sorry about that.”

Honestly I do feel sorry for these guys but at the same time I feel happy that their aql (intellect) has woken up, and lets hope their campaign becomes bigger and stronger so that it can eventually get enough support to get the soldiers out of iraq!

as long as Bush is in control, he’s said he’ll attack iran, even if the support isn’t there. so its going to happen. and he’ll always have at least 30% strong support from religious people in the US who believe the war is a holy war. and also, it doesnt help that iran hasnt completely said they wont use this stuff for nuclear capability. I wouldnt want iran to have nukes because new york is going to be the first place hit if they do want to attack. they just arent stable enough. just like the US now, only worse.

I think that video and other videos like that need to be spread out more so that the public could finally realize that what is going on in Iraq is devastating. Americans need to open up their eyes and see that their not bringing democracy to Iraq at all. As far as I know, the soldiers are causing misery and corruption. They have been brainwashed by teh US military and most of them don’t even know. America is supposed to be a place of liberty and equality, yet what is happening in Iraq is totally contrary to that. It’s sad to know that so many people can be easily manipulated and brainwashed. It’s as if all of their morality has been drained out of them. Can you believe it, it’s the year 2006 and we are still talikng about war. Thanks a lot George Bush.

Haseeb, thank you for posting this. This will never be shown on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and for sure will never be shown on FOX!
I know that a lot of young soldiers will return home forever psychologically scarred from all of this.
I am still stunned that more Americans are not speaking out against the war. What is it? What is going on in our country that so many have become so complacent?

They are probably gonna get their wish soon. And after US troops leave Iraq, the real fun can begin over there.

I wonder how many Iraqis will die in the civil war… a few hundred thousand at least. Hey, maybe Iraq can break a million! Once its liberated from the occupiers, our attention will turn elsewhere and it wont matter anymore.

Yes, we all have our own dogma. But it is the citizens of Iraq and the young American soldiers who pay the price of whatever beliefs we all hold.

Great reporting on this. BBC Newsnight is a great programme, I wish it wasn’t shown so late.
To be fair with all the media stuff & that, the main British channels can give really fair news and documentaries, which one should appreciate. Channel 4 news I have to say is the most fair. They reported from Iran for a whole week, following all the nucleur power issue, and allowed account from all sides, letting the public decided their own opinions.
I do wish US, the propogaters of democracy, allow more of this reporting, for their own sakes.

    Wasalam & peace

As a Canadian, I’ve always been a little anti-American. The invasion of Iraq solidified that for me. I have worked in the US, I have a brother living in the US. I’ve had numerous Muslim friends… needless to say I find this whole thing rather troubling. I do believe that the US has done some great things… but I’m constantly amazed by US arrogance. This program, at the very least, reminded me that this is not the view of all Americans. My plea to Americans is to please, please act on your morals. Don’t back your country under the pretense that you are a patriot; question your country’s actions because you are a patriot and you believe in democracy and wish to preserve America’s integrity.
