Pakistani Poem Praising Bush

Wow, this embarasses me, both as an American, and as a Pakistani…

This poem was found in high school english text books on the virtues of an effective leader. Coincidentally, look at what the first letters of each line spell… This poem was removed recently from all school books. Thank God!

The leader

Patient and steady with all he must bear,

Ready to accept every challenge with care,

Easy in manner, yet solid as steel,

Strong in his faith, refreshingly real,

Isn’t afraid to propose what is bold,

Doesn’t conform to the usual mold,

Eyes that have foresight, for hindsight wont do

Never back down when he sees what is true

Tells it all straight, and means it all too

Bracing for war, but praying for peace

Using his power so evil will cease:

So much a leader and worthy of trust,

Here stands a man who will do what he must

Update - Read The Polemicist’s blog for more on this story…

    I have a better poem:

Pretty stupid, simple and totally unaware
Ready to fight for oil - its his only care
Easily confused and as thick as steel
Surely that election he won wasn’t real
Isn’t afraid to lie so that he appears bold
Didn’t pass high school is what I was told
Eyes that cant see and always half shut
Never makes any sense - this guys a nut
Tells it all twisted and means it all too
Bracing for war, he doesn’t allow peace
Using his power so his vacation won’t cease
So not a leader and not worthy of trust
He’s the worst leader ever, the most unjust
