Advice to Seekers… Salafi? Sufi?…???
Published by Haseeb December 2nd, 2005 in IslamSo basically my post trying to educate you guys a little bit about Sufism got a little carried away with your responses. I advised you to listen to Shaykh Hamza’s short talk on Advice to Seekers (mp3) (right click-save as)
I really hope people are listening to it because I think its very beneficial and essential for Muslims today, particularly in the west to understand. Growing up, many of us become confused as to what madhabs are, whats sufism, whats salafism, do we need to establish a khilafah, whats the point of life, etc. More often than not, people just become attracted to whatever is around them (their local masjids, groups in school, etc.) and thats fine. And more commonly today, people run in to different types of Muslims with all different sorts of views. This talk gives advice, to all seekers of knowledge of the deen on what we really should be focusing on.
Here are some KEY points:
- We are not all scholars of Islam, so lets not all try to pretend we are!
- Take the positives and good from everyone around you. We all have rights and responsibilites over one another!
- Learn BASIC Aqeedah and basic fiqh (how to pray, etc.);
- Learn your FARDs!!!
- Find good company!
- Never debate or argue over religion!
- Argumentation about Religion is maqruh (disliked) for ulema, and it is haraam for common people!
- We have no authority to argue over Ashari, Wahabi, Sufi, etc. - and by doing so we are actually acruing WRONG ACTIONS!
- Best advice: be with the majority! (hadith: The wolf will eat the sheep that will go away form the flock, The one who deviates from the majority, deviates into the hellfire)
- Even Shi’as are our brothers in our religion. if the greatest ulema over the past 1400 years couldnt resolve the differences, who are we to argue over it? We should be welcome in each others masjids!
- Most arguments people give are based on UNSOUND reasoning based on taking things out of context and attacking people unnecessarily.
- IHSAN has an outward aspect: (akhlaq -character), and an inward aspect!
- And if people want to argue with you, say what Imam Malik said: Argumentation is NOT PART OF OUR RELIGION

Leave it to the scholars, us laymen people should just stick to improving our aklaq (character).
Jazak’Allah
Khair.
help us do this and keep us strong in our deen. Ameen Sub Ameen.
The link to the talk and a quick summary are much appreciated. It’s soooo important to improve our aklaq (character) and have ettiquette in what we do. May Allah
Keep smiling all!
jazaks for the talk, it was very good. i was told a few days ago by a shaykh that the ulema say that when people enter into debate/arguementation i.e become preoccupied with debating, Allah
abandons them..subhanallah, and the MANNER in which some people “debate” in is appalling
whats with all the matrimonial ads dude?!!
asa haseeb bro!once again all well said and summarised. Healthy discussion is fine. Problem is people of all schools of thought are guilty of bringing emotions in and demeaning themselves to point scoring. Isn’t the fact we have the same Quran, Prophets (PBUthem), fundamentals enough?
Matrimonial ads? Haseeb you don’t have a wifey yet? Damn! And are you a sufi? or a salafi?
No Amir, i dont have a wifey. Im not salafi, and as of today, ive never given baya to any shaykh or joined any tariqa. Define me however u want, all i can say i am is one who strives to submit to God with iman and ihsan, if Allah
wills.
As for the matrimonial ads, they are beyond by control, i dont support any of those sites. They are all google ads, and google is in control of what appears in that ad-space, not me. The ad revenue helps pay for the costs of this website.
MAY PEACE BE UPON YOUR SOULS, HEARTS, MINDS, AND BODIES…AMEN.

ITS JUST THAT I DUNNO WHATS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave baya to haseeb the other day
Asalamualykum Sara
check out http://www.masud.co.uk
check out some articles on there, inshaAllah
assalamu 3aliakum Sara,
you said you didn’t wana be of the 72 sects right?… all u need to do is follow what the Prophet Muhammed
(PBUH) said… all his hadeeths… just follow him and the Quran…
… and he follows the Quran, the sunnah.. and Prophet Muhammed
…
and it seems to me like you’re confused with the Sheikhs too…
there’s a website for a Sheikh in Saudi:
http://www.islam-qa.com
it’s a very very very popular website… the Sheikh there is very knowledgable masha’Allah
im guessing uno how to speak arabic.. so r u familiar with the word bid3ah??… بدعة…. that’s something that is added on to Islam that wasn’t originally there… in other words innovation in Islam… which is totally haram… cuz there’s an ayah in the quran that says
“Or have they partners with Allaah (false gods) who have instituted for them a religion which Allaah has not ordained?” [al-Shooraa 42:21]
plz go to this site… it talks about Bid3ah and Shirk:
http://63.175.194.25/index.php?ln=eng&ds=qa&lv=browse&QR=10843&dgn=4
Whoever makes a new innovation in Islam can be considered as a kafir depending on what it is… I don’t much of these 72 sects… but i do know that they created innovations in Islam… which is haram…
these 72 sects are not following the prophet… they each added on something different to Islam…
Therefore, i advice you to go to this website… and on the side click on submit question… and ask the Sheikh everything to take away your confusion… as I said before this Sheikh is very very good.. and you can trust him… so plz ask him your question…
it is very important for every Muslim to know about all of this
you just need a trustworthy Sheikh…
Oh and someone asked this Sheikh about Sufism already here’s the site… PLZ CHECK IT OUT!!!:
http://63.175.194.25/index.php?ln=eng&ds=qa&lv=browse&QR=47431&dgn=4
newaysssssssssssssssss sry this an essay…
i hope it helped tho

lol
blogging is bidda3 hahaha
and to huda, giving us dead links is bidda3 also (click ur name)
Salamu Alaikum
Bida’ has a specific definition, and the laymen shouldnt really try to get into the technical details of it. The least one should know is that many Ulema (Imam Suyuti, Ibn Hajar, Nawawi e.t.c) did state there was a Bida’ Hasana (good innovation) mainly because the hadith “Kul Bida’ Dalala” does not mean “all” but “most”. The principle is called “al umum bi ma’ana al khusus” (the general in terms of the specific)….
As for Shaykh Munajjids Fatawa on Sufis - it is riddled with flaws - but allahu a’lam. This is what I know from my teachers. I really would not advise people to go to that site (nasiha, not arguing).
Barakallah Feekum Haseeb for the article!
Du’as
Wasalam
Mr. Ryder… im not trying to slash down these 72 sects…
i did my research… so y don’t u go do urs… im not just makin up stuff here… everything i said wuz based on research.. so it wuznt to offend
OMG the whole point of my post was NOT to stress and argue over these little petty differences. Did you guys LISTEN to that talk i posted above???
hahahaha aww huda iz all good, im messin with u, ur like my sister in islam, and im your bro in islam, so iz alllll gooood.
thank you for your research.
u dont have to call me Mr. Ryder u can just say MR.
jazakAllah khair

No need to write in caps Haseeb. It sounds like youre yelling. There is a difference between sincere counsel, discussing masalah, and arguing for the sake of arguing.
Alot of things do get said which need correction, and if someone sees benefit in correcting something they see wrong, as long as they have [1] ‘Ilm of the specific subject, coupled with [2] Hikma and [3] solid and respectable approach, then it is rather praiseworthy to do so.
Most people do not have any of the above 3 points - unfortunately - so i understand where you are coming from but i dont see anyone on this specific comments page “arguing”.
I do see Amir causing some commotion though
but we all know Amir : )
Wasalam
mashallah, so true
lolzz…that’s just MR hitting on some other random female, eh?
btw haseeb you have to wonder: why MATRIMONIAL ads…i mean, why not publishing, or real estate or even educational institutes…why matrimonial?! heehee…this is crazy! does google know things that we don’t know?
I just spent an hour and a half looking through the matrimonial ads,…….. interesting.
I am thinking about starting up my own matrimonial service as community service…..
maybe someday, I’ll meet soul mate if possible through this scheme
(okay not really, i just have a lot of single friends that have asked me to help them or rather pray for them and I want to help).
LOL People using Haseeb’s blog as their on blogspot!! Need I repeat what I said re emotions and point scoring.Peace out. LOL re matrimonial sites!Don’t that just show how popular your blog has become, that Google is placing their adverts on.
as-salamu alaikum,
Muslim, don’t you think that those matrimonial ads are haram?… maybe you should ask a Shaykh…. meeting ppl over the internet?… if I were you I would never start one because you’re getting the sins of everyone you “match” together… that would’nt be too great right?
and Salman, I’d like to ask who taught you that about Al-Munajjid??.
do you know that hadeeth: “ان بعد الظن اثم”
That means when you suspect someone for something haram, you get sins for it. maybe you should tell your teacher that. i’m not arguing either but i hate it when people just try to cut down other Muslims
anyways… I think you should try to find the truth for yourself…
as-salamu alaikum
oh boy, anonymous, why the heck do you hate me so and your are doing suscpicon as well, just cause I said about the matrimonial ads, not all those people are doing haraam(yeah some) but some are going through walis and stuff.
And my matrimonial service is not gonna be an online one. If i start one, it is going to be using Islaamic protocals. Wal7amdulillaah, thanks for the reminder, I am a practicng muslim. You dont have to have beef with me(are you the same harrassing anonymous, that has issues with my manhajj). Well, I am considering to call myself what i most probably are in practice: a Shafi’ee.
And now let us all say Auzobillahi minashaytaan nirajeem.
(Respect differences and let it be).
Salamu Alaikum
Sidi Anonymous I would like to apologise if i said anything offending.
My teachers are the Ulema, whom I study under, and they have the right to state what they did about Shaykh Munajjid. This is one of the rights of the Ulema.
I did not suspect him of something Haram. However, I did say according to many scholars his Fatawa on some of these issues are inaccurate.
Barakallah Feekum for your nasiha - May Allah
reward you.
Wasalam
why dont we just argue about wether aruging is a part of islam? Alright, all jokes aside…i not only agree but love everything Haseeb said in this one, its just too bad i’m just as guilty of not listening to it as anyone else is, proly more guilty and thats not the whole humility thing either.

dear brothers
i know for a fact that this site is for ppl of lack of knowlege, lack of sunnah, who dont have taqwa.
i admit im not perfect and noone is free of sin, but i salute ppl of quraan and sunnah and dont do shirk or bidah or sinfull acts out in public.
So i ask you brother’s & sisters what sect am i??? i have to follow a path!!! i have to follow a certain path acheavie success??
there is 72 sects in islaam and it is relatively easy to distinguish from rite or wrong. some are closer to Allah
and some aint, some are exceptable and some aint, some are in the middle.
yes we should correct our selfs first and then give out our believes if it is in accordance with the quraan and sunnah. yes love each other brother haseeb, but put a big capital full stop in saying nothing wrong with suf’s when it clearly is something wrong with it, or any other sect in the 72 sects because they will all ways be 1 saved sect in islaam and it is paramount that we try to follow it to our best abillities. and if we follow the wrong one unintentionally then we ask Allah
to for give us, but we will get punished for it after then we will enter paradise. because we are on this earth on borrowed time and we will be asked why we did not make an effort to understand the deen of Allah
SAW.
i refer u too http://www.troid.org
salamalikum ,I want to make a correction, I said that I’m a student of knowledge I have to take that back because I’am no student of knowledge and anything close to one.I do know one thing thats clear from the quran and the sunnah is we have to follow the prophet teachings with the understanding of the sahabas. Allah
says in the quran and whosever contradicts and opposes the messenger after the right path has been shown to him, and follows other than the believes’way, we shall keep hm in the path he has chosen, and burn him in heel-what an evil destination! surah4:115. Ibn abbas the sahaba and cousin of the prophet said believers in this verse refer to us the sahabas. so that is very clear like other ayahs and hadiths about following the sahabas, and we all know truely even the sufis theyselves that the companions wasnt no sufis. in fact the sufis get alot of their ideologies from the christians, may Allah
guide us all and keep us away from innovations and we need to stop following our desires becuase it seems like its cool or sounds good we need to see if the prophet in his companions did the acts of worships that people like hamza yousef and them are teaching.
