Sami Yusuf- Hasbi Rabbi - The Video!

Ive been waiting for this video for a while now, and earlier today one of my best friends Haroon found the video and sent it to me. With lyrics in English, Turkish, Urdu/Hindi, and Arabic, its only fitting that this video has scenes shot in England, Turkey, India, and Egypt? (Some Arab country).

Another beautiful video by Sami Yusuf! or Download it here

Please be patient and let the video load.

i dont want to criticize, just point out. This dude is taking the bus, talking to a stranger on the bus, getting up for an old woman who gets on, doing carpentry, teaching young kids about islam, walking on the street, playing as part of an orchestra, going to work…lol did they need a video to go with this song? You can tape an avg persons, incredibly boring average day and add a goofy smile to that persons face and come up with the same thing this video depicts. Again, i dont want to criticize, but jeez, talk about originality - groundbreaking!

lol 2 da above comment!come on man, its sami jackson! i watched it and lol! is it just me or did anyone else notice how similar da london bit in the video looks like saif ali khan in a song in kal ho na ho?(though that was in america) all that was needed was a few happy kicks in the air and a few dance moves…
    who cares the songs nice

  3. 3 Haseeb from: United States usyour flag

lol i thought the same thing - if only they went into a little dance number with the locals in each country, haha that wouldve been hot - maybe for a bollywood version of the song? …

  4. 4 Someone from: United States usyour flag

Yeah the video was kinda corny, really. And he sings the best in turkish and then I dont know what language.
I think it would have been even better for Lollywood(yeah LAHORE!) that there is this British girl that converts because she sees him singing and when he goes to India, a Hindu girl converts, and when he goes to Egypt, a Coptic girl convert, and in Turkey a Turkish Jewish girl likes him and converts…..now that would be a nice Islamic video.

the song is nice, but the video is quite lame. it would have been better if they had gotten different people in different scenes/countries. would have been more realistic.

  9. 9 Hase from: Europe euyour flag

To be really honest the video is not that bad. Well i think it could have been slightly more creative. nevertheless atleast we have some videos by nasheed artists at our disposal. I think Samis leading the way. most important of all it about giving dawah and on that point my non muslim friend loves track 5 and 13 from samis album. so there!

just to say that Sami’s video is gr8!
the lyrics are good, but in some instances it seems as though the music is more overpowering the language used….
i’m not sure whether his instruments are even halal….but mashallah he is very Talented.
Hasbi Rabbi is one of the tracks i like, but theres a few i don’t like, and they’re the ones which haven’t good lyrics….even i could write better.
hardly any1 i know, knows about Sami Yusuf, but they do now, after the video, and they find him a big icon and appreciate his efforts.

I was stunned to hear this song, i saw the video over an arab music channel. Its the message people should focus on rather than pointing out the flaws in the video. The message i recieved was; We as muslims have the benefit of mixing in cultures and welcoming people from all races and ethnicities. We are not nationalists but we consider everyone as equal. My heart should be connected to Allah (SWT) at all times. I like others songs from ‘My Ummah’ too. Music instruments are just instruments..like books…its upto oneself how he uses it. I wish Sami Yusuf would produce more good music. May Allah (SWT) guide us all.

  46. 46 Hishaam from: United States usyour flag

Wow, the nasheed is the great, but honestly, the movie is lacking some major stuff.

First off, the London part is completely useless. Just him walking around and doing normal stuff.

The Turkish part is good, it shows some of the culture and people. It should of showed the Blue Mosque a bit more though.

He totally messed up on the Urdu part. First off, it should of been in Pakistan, not India because atleast Pakistan is a muslim country. Next, they showed the Taj Mahal like 5 billion times. Its a freakin burial site, not a mosque. And after all the little rainbow shirted boys, it shows like 10 hindu people with the little red dots on their heads, CLEARLY stating that they are HINDU not MUSLIM!

And then the (Saudi Arabian/Egyptian?) part was good too.

  47. 47 Hakan from: Europe euyour flag

I would like to make a comment on the immages that the movie tries to establish and in fact I am very doubtful if they are right. First, a Muslim who lives in London and also integrated into social life in it. He seems to have no problems with the Britons.

Secondly, he is a businessman who seems to have no reservations about working with modern women and non-Muslim partners.

Thirdly, he seems to be a talented musician as we can see from the instruments that he plays.

Fourtly, he also plays football, although not with his contemporaries in age.

The image that I see in this movie is that a Muslim is a person who is integrated into western style of life with all its aspects, especially with the ones that we need least such as music, instruments, suits, football ets. and finally his short beard is adding a disticnt flovar into the movie! Someone must tell people that there is a proper shape of beard in Islam if they intend to have it.

My questions are: Is it possible to serve to Islam and Muslimiin with non-Islamic means? Are we looking for the “izza” in the disbelievers? …

  48. 48 Haseeb from: United States usyour flag

    This may shock you… but…

There is good in what non-Muslims do. Like the Quran says, enjoin the good and forbid the evil - with non-Muslims too.

Yes there is a (majority) opinion that some musical instruments are not allowed in islam, but there is also a (minor) opinion which allows it. Please respect him for his stance on Music. The same goes with length of beard. Granted it may be safer to follow the ‘preferred opinions’ that doesnt give u the right to look down upon others who dont follow the same opinions!

We all have to forego the mentality of Islam is my way only. Islam is not a religion for the people of 7th century Arabia and that culture, its for all of mankind; a culturally and racially diverse mankind.

For more on music search for ‘music, islam’ in the search area of my archives.

  49. 49 Hakan from: Europe euyour flag

    My friend Haseeb,
I am not inyended to look down on anyboby with the previous note you see above. But we must be careful about not confucing our religion with the devils of our age. In order to protect ourselves and our religion we must be careful about suspectful things, especially if they are highly suspectful according to majority. And in fact majority view in Sunni school is that music is forbidded except in weddings, religious festivals (aeds) and circumscission of children. And in addition, it is quite dangerous for a person to be an expert in music and musical instruments because it requires a huge work and an extensive partnership with the satan ar-ragiim.

And in fact you cannot say that the Islam that the Qoran and the Propher Muhammed (alayhissalatu vassalam) defines is most proper for the 7th century Arabia. You must recall that it Islam changed the Arabs from kufr to imaan, from non-existence to existence, from death to life. One can no way say that we must reform Islam with the passage of time and we must not see this as a permission for destroying the religion.

Another important thing that I would like point out is that this music by Sami Yusuf is atracting Muslims to music though it might be prepared to address the non-Muslims. I do not listen to music myself, except when I have to in buses and similar places, but Sami Yusuf is pulling me to listen. Music is already attractive for young people, and when someone mixes some Islamic characters to it with references to various Islamic communities and cities, it becomes even more attractive. I pray to my Allah (SWT) Almighty to protect me and other Muslims from the evils of these kind of innovations.

There might be some good things about his music, but as it happens to be about alcohol and gambling, its evils seem to surpass its benefits.

  50. 50 Haseeb from: United States usyour flag

You can play music at your wedding, on eid, and when u circumcize ur kids. Mashallah, tawfiq to you. You may believe it is the work of the devil and the evil of music outweighs its harms. If that belief gives u sakeenah, then all the power to you.

I, as well as many others would respectfully disagree. And you should respect this viewpoint. Allahu’alim.

I never said the Quran and prophet (saw) defined what is most proper for 7th century arabia. Most of the quran and sunnah defines ibadat, and of course those must remain free from innovation, but the rest is much more flexible than you would like to imagine. Yes Islam, greatly changed the Arabs, but alot of their underlying culture and customs did remain.

Again all that I ask is that u respect my and others opinion. I am not doubting your sincerity in your view on music, but you should respect others with opposing views.

Search my website for music and islam for my take on this issue.

May Allah (SWT) grant you success in this life and in the hereafter.

and for the record, even brother Sami Yusuf acknowledges this difference of opinion, and he has released another (non-music) version of his album as well to cater to the views of people like u. (http://www.awakening.org/products/89 (Percussion Version)

  51. 51 Hakan from: Europe euyour flag

Thank you for your instant response my brother Haseeb. I would like to say that I seek refuge in Allah (SWT) from living and ruling according to my own opinion. Otherwise there will be difference of opinions and sects as much as the number of Muslims. I am not so expert in Islamic sciences to make my own way of things, but in my view, we must follow the oppinoin leaders of Islam.

I can respect your and other peoples opinion, but important thing is: Will Allah (SWT) be respecting your opinion in the day of judgement?

However, though I belive that much of what Sami Yusuf and his funs are doing is wrong, it is not a great wrong as worshipping idols, rebelling against parents, killing an innocent person and so on. I hope that Allah (SWT) forgives them if they keep away from big sins.

One good thing about the song may be that the non-Muslim keen music listeners can like that music and this can revert them to Islam. I have a japanese class-mate in one of my classes and I listened the music to him yesterday. He seemed to like it, but I don’t know if he will be a believer.

well i think that sami yusuf has done a great job but i am not sure at the fact that he has music in this. well there are 2 opinions about using musical instuments,n the prophet said that if there is two difference of opinion then it is best not to do it. so for sami he should of not used musical instruments and it would not have made a difference if he’ve jus done it with a drum like supplication or muallim nasheeds.

well i think that his video is really good and i dont think
that al them guys that didn’t like it or made a comment on it would have even done a quarter of it.

    Salam,
u ar doing a great job sami. Some ppl here ar critisizing on samis looks and his videos but the main thing is the messege in his songs. We should concentrate on the songs and messege in them only.If anybody have a problem with his videos or looks jus buy the audio version and listen to his songs and try to concentrate on his message. We must appreciate wht hes is doing. :)
