Outlandish featuring Shaykh Abdullah Adhami?
Published by Haseeb October 30th, 2005 in Abdallah Adhami, Entertainment, Islam, Music, OutlandishSo I finally came across Closer Than Veins (Outlandish’s latest CD). I think it came out today in Europe, I dont know if and when it will be released in the States, but if I get any information about that Ill definitely post it up.
So far, the album sounds really good. Beautiful lyrics, and songs with very practical and emotional themes. It has a different feel to it than Bread and Barrels of Water, so its nice to see Outlandish grow as artists… Ill put up some clips and a full album review sometime this week inshaAllah.
Something I came across, and was initially shocked by was track 6 of the album, Nothing Left to do. Its a song about reflecting on ones past and being accountabe for one’s past actions (sins) and more importantly realize how u can repent and move on from your past. However it ends with a brief one minute talk on the importance of surrounding oneself around a positive environment, because that is what will inevitably shape ur mind and heart. And it really sounds like Shaykh Abdullah Adhami is the one giving this talk. He has a unique voice and style of speech! I asked Nazim and Waheed about this, and they confirmed that it sounds like him.

It does sound like him, doesnt it?
And if any of you know if in fact it is Shaykh Adhami (or someone else for that matter) please leave a comment with the info and source for my own personal curiosity and validation.
*CONFIRMED* - it is Shaykh Abdullah Adhami - see his website @ sakeenah.org, where he lists Closer Than Veins by Outlandish as one of his collaborative Ventures!

yes it is him!
salamu alaikum
that realllyyy sounds like him….
sounds like him
its him no doubt about it. Unless someone invented a recording machine that can perfectly simulate a person’s voice like in 24 Season 2.
I cried watching the video. Thanks for the link
Can someone tell me, who made the melody to the song named Beyond Words. Because it is a total rip off, of a famous bosnian song, from the 70-80 can remember the excact date.
no international copy right laws. thats why snow got ripped off and i saw some indians singing ‘informer’ on the bollywood channel or watever that is. same all over.
Outlandish couldve gotten permission to use the background music! (they did for aicha). Plus, music artists recycle old music all the time! If anything if the melody of an older song is re-made, it should be taken it as a compliment to be re-used (with due credit of course).
salam yall-
it is indeed the very beautiful and profound Sh. Adhami, masha’Allah
. he’s been in touch with Isam for a few months and Isam mentioned that Sh. Adhami would have an interlude on the album.
eid mubarak!
sanjine to ti je djurdjevdan od bregovica (pjesma “Ederlezi” iz filma dom za vjesanje)
check out http://www.sakeenah.org - I guess this what “with an Interlude by
Shaykh Abdallah Adhami” means - thanks for posting this!
I randomly found this link while serching for something else entirely different on the internet, but wow, all I can say is that perhaps there is indeed Barakah in that particular lecture by Sheikh Abdullah, for as we all agree, it is him. May Allah
guide our hearts closer to Him, and for anyone who has never heard of Sheikh Abdullah, you should look into his lectures..some are available through Muslim companies, like mecca centric
TO SANJIN DERVISEVICH:
Hi, you’re thinking of the Yugolsav song “Djurdjevdan” by Bijelo Dugme. It is Outlandish singing, and they’ve used the melody in the background… I heard them play it in a shop today while I was shopping… I got so f***ng pissed of:D…. Our Djurdjevdan is much better;)
Pozdrav iz Danske
Capital D does a similar and cool thing with Sheikh Hamza in a track called “blowback” - it works really well
Hi,
The sample for ‘Beyond Words’ is from Erdelezi, a Romany folk song, and if you look in the CD inlay, they credit this to the relevant person. So it would appear that they did ask for permission to use it. The song Erdelezi, incidentally is used in a film called Time Of The Gypsies.
Imran
this is kinda random, but Does anyone have a link to the song or video “Eyes never dry” by outlandish?
MAY PEACE BE UPON YOUR SOUL, HEART, MIND, AND BODY…AMEN.
“Every container will only pour out what is contained in it, and so your tongue is your ability to express what lies in your spirit, everything around you is environmental forces that shape how your being is and how your heart is, and when you open your mouth to speak, its like your heart is a sponge that absorbs all of this material from around you, essentially what you’re doing is squeezing what is in you, and what comes out is going to be what has been compiled in your mind and in your memory, obviously you can only express in your heart what has been placed in it, and so in order for the outcome and the output from the tongue to be positive, the input in that needs to be positive…”

The melody of this song comes from an old Gipsy song called Djurdjevdan or Ederlezi that Gypsies from former Yugoslavia or Serbia sang and played for a long time. It’s played by Gypsy trumpet band. A famous song writer, producer and band leader of one of the best Yugoslav bands Bjelo Dugme, Goran Bregovic, used that song for his album way back in mid eighties and also as a soundtrack song for an award winning movie Time of Gypsies a.k.a. Gypsy Caravan (won a Golden Palma at Festival de Cannes), or in our language Dom Za Vjesala which came out at end of Eighties.
This song is still very big in former Yugoslavia, Serbia, Bosnia and other states. It has a special meaning to Serbs, even though it is originally a Gypsy song. Djurdjevdan is a day devoted to a saint, in English he is called St. George. It is basically a love song, a song about lost love. I hope this sheds some light on it.
Hi - Does anybody know if the background music from Track 01 - Intro from Bread & Barrels of Water can be got on its own? or just the Instrumental? It’s the flute-type music in the background.
How can they put muslim lyrics on a song which name is the name of a christian saint? i think it’s f**ked up
I have to say something about the song “Beyond Words”. As I am from Bosnia myself i also know the song “Djurdjevdan” from Bijelo Dugme. This song is wonderful, I love it, but I think that Outlandish made a great new song to the melody and I think the lyrics of the Outlandish song run much more deeper. I kind of feel honoured that they used this melody for one of their songs.
Way to go Outlandish, can’t wait for the next album, I hope it will come soon!
i hope the shuyukh didnt approve of their work
i hope shk adami didnt approve of their work
Thanks for sharing
