Sami Yusuf, “My Ummah”
Sami Yusuf’s long awaited followup to the ever-so-popular, Al-Mualim was finally released this week. This album, "My Ummah", deals with – amongst other things – issues such as unity, spirituality, sisters’ struggle to wear the scarf, terrorism, human brotherhood, faith, and songs about Allah 
and Prophet Muhammad 
(pbuh). I recently came across the album and I love it. There are actually two versions available, one with full music, and one in a Percussion version to suit Muslims of all tastes and personal views on music. I heard the Music version.
I really liked the various array of topics and issues covered in My Ummah. Make a Prayer addresses all the struggling plight of so many of our brothers and sisters across the Muslim World. Free discusses the right for Muslimahs to freely wear hijab with modesty and integrity. Muhammad (pbuh) is dedicated to the Beslan tragedy last year and addresses issues of violence and terrorism in Islam.
Every day I see the same headlines
Crimes committed in the name of the divine
People committing atrocities in his name
They murder and kidnap with no shame
But did he teach hatred, violence, or bloodshed? No… Oh NoHe taught us about human brotherhood
And against prejudice he firmly stood He loved children, their hands he’d hold
And taught his followers to respect the old
So would he allow the murder of an innocent child? Oh No…Muhammad the light of my eyes
About you they spread many lies
If only they came to realise
Bloodshed you despise
This album, like Al-Mualim is sure to be an international success. I actually liked this album more than his fist. With lyrics in English, Arabic, Turkish, and even Urdu and Spanish, Muslims all around the world should appreciate the beautiful lyrics and various cultural influences evident on many of the songs. Some select favorite songs so far are Hasbi Rabbi (which features lyrics in urdu!), Mother (which has a beautiful video!), the title track, My Ummah, Eid Song (im sure itll be a bit hit for eid parties), and of course Try Not to Cry (featuring Outlandish (yes Isam, Waqas, and Lenny all contribute!!! – im a big outlandish fan!). Its nice seeing Muslim artists poisitively collaborating and working together like this.
Overall, My Ummah is an excellent album and exceptionally well produced and written! You can preview the CD on my music player. Please respect copyright laws and purchase the album for yourself if you enjoy the music.

I think sami yusuf is a great man because he sings very good and he is a very good muslim too. Sami changed my life because when he sang that song Mother it was so great that it changed my whole lifr I am know helping my mother also now I am thankful for having this best realigion. I also wanted to say that sami’s song Free the one with the singing of hijab changed me because I am know proud that I wear hijab and my head is held up high because I am confident and I don’t care what people say about me THIS QUOTE IS FOR THE GIRLS WHO WEAR HIJAB: I honestly think that I don’t care about when people stare at me and when they say funny things to me to make me look bad. The other thing I wanted to say is that my dad is a Mullah that is how say it in my language this means an Islamic scholar who teaches about islamic things. My dad let’s me listen t music because it is good and it is not the only one that has good lyrics in it there are lots of other songs that have good lyrics in it and good words. I like sami because he changed my life and I appreciate him for doing that.
