Agassi v. Blake, AMAZING MATCH!
Published by Haseeb September 8th, 2005 in Sports, Tennis
Oh man, what a match that was!!! For those of you who havent heard of James Blake, hes an unseeded young American tennis player who had a promising start to his career. He was born in Yonkers, NY and went on to Harvard with a Tennis scholarship where he was ranked among the worlds best up and coming athletes. However last year, his early rise to fame was put on hold as he was dealt with a couple of severe blows to his career. He broke his neck after hitting his head into the metal tennis net post in Rome. Shortly afterwards, he lost his father to cancer. Weeks later he contracted a stress-induced virus and shingles which ended up temporarily paralyzing his face. His future career, let alone the standard of his future life was unknown.

However, the 25 year old African American came back and overcame all those obstacles to make it to the quarterfinals of the US Open. Unseeded at the start of the Open, he made the tournament as a wild-card entry. He has put on some quite impressive victories over the highly ranked Robredo and Nadal(2). And earlier tonight, he lost to 7th ranked Andre Agassi (If you dont know who he is, i dont know what rock youre living under) in THE BEST, well-fought out battle ive ever seen on any tennis court. After Blake took a commanding 2 set lead (6-3, 6-3), Agassi came back to even it up 2 sets a piece (3-6, 3-6). And the final set went into extra games as Agassi came back to tie it 5-5. Agassi won the next match, and then Blake, 6-6. So then at 1am, the match went into TIE BREAK. Agassi took it to a matchpoint 6-5 lead, and Blake tied it up 6-6. Agassi took another 7-6 matchpoint lead, but this time Blake couldnt come back, as Agassi finally won the tiebreak 7-6. What a match! I really hope Agassi, 35 years young, goes on to win this thing!

Again this was the best tennis match Ive ever seen, and although Blake lost, he certainly isnt a loser. He has made quite a comeback and has definitely proven himself to be among the game’s most elite players.
