Id first like to start with an apology, there has been so much going on lately for me to write about, but i just havent had the time to do so. And unfortunately it doesnt look like i will have much time to post in the near future, but inshallah ill try to post semi-regularly. I definitely have to learn to properly prioritize my time, and the first major step starts this Monday, when i begin my AIM Ban!

Well anyway, earlier today The Pope Urged Muslims to Confront Terrorism. He mentioned how Christains and Muslims should work alongside to confront terrorism. And I wholeheartedly agree, in fact, i would take it a step further and say that the Muslims must lead in confronting terrorism. He also mentioned how Muslim teachers had a grave responsibility in teaching their youth. And I also have written about this in the past. Teaching hatred and violence is un-slamic and it cannot be tolerated. I am very happy that he gave this speech. I dont know how effective it actually with respect to the Muslim response, but at least many Catholics will see how essential it is to work alongside Muslims in addressing terrorism.

Just yesterday, on REAL TIME with Bill Maher, the issue of profiling was brought up, and Maher believed that we should profile. All of the recent terrorists in the past 20 years or so have all been Young Muslim Males with FEW exceptions. (You can bring up Timothy Mcveigh all you want, but its a futile argument!). How can you argue against that? It is only most efficient and most logical to target people who look like me, have my kind of name, share the heritage I share, and (claim to) follow the religion that I do. Its a sad and unfortunate reality, but thats the world we live in. I cannot do anything about my age. I am proud of my name, proud that my parents are from Paksitan, and more than anything else, proud to be one who is in complete submission to God (a Muslim). We cant go hiding our identities and remain isolated. If I will be pulled aside everytime I travel, that is something I have to deal with - I dont like it, but I understand why. Because in the end, if pulling aside 1,000 people like me, helps capture just ONE insane a–hole who claims to be Muslim and is plotting some terrorist activity, I believe that it was all (including my minor inconvenience) worth it.

But again, this by no means is a solution, or how we must live forever. Like the Pope said, it is us, the Muslims who must confront terrorism. And it starts ONLY with the proper teaching of Islam to our children and bretheren. It saddens me today on how many Muslims dont even understand the basics of Islam, they dont even know who and what God is. Muslims just need to LEARN who God is. This goes especially for all those who claim to be Muslim who are resorting to hatred and unjust violence; two concepts completely foreign to traditional Islam.

funny how you criticize other ppl of not knowing about God … are you claiming that you do? this is by far one of the worst posts you have put up thus far, how can you agree with the profiling garbage? I refuse to be stopped every time i have to travel whether in grand central station in ny or O Hare in Chicago, as if profiling ever works. the fact of the matter is that we live in a very racist country. Just the other day my sister’s friend had seen with her own very eyes police officers stopping 6 people who made an illegal turn, the three who were white were let go with a warning, the other three, a south asian, an oriental, and a hasidic jew were all given tickets. Black men all over the country are racially profiled every single day by the many law enforcement agencies. Dr Sherman Jackson, a very prominent islamic scholar, can even testify to this as he was horribly profiled as well. Agree with profiling haseeb? you setting civil rights back about 60 years, thas probably where you want to be anyway back when asian immigrants were considered white ….

haseeb as always you fail to see outside your own bubble. wake up, the world isn’t exactly filled with bad guys and good guys.

i dont agree with profiling, i just understand the argument for it.

if youre looking for terrorists, are u gonna look at all ppl indiscriminately, or those kind of people (young muslim males) who fit the criterion of 90%+ of all the terrorists in the past 20 years or so?

I hate the fact that it may come down to it, and i DISAGREE WITH THE concept of profiling at all - but i do understand why so many ppl are thinking that way - and given their reasoning can u blame them haroon??

And for the record, I was profiled myself a couple of weeks ago at St. Johns University. But whatever, thats not something i want to get into. - and besides, im just sharing some thoughts, not passing a fatwa here..
