Muhammad Hassan 2004-2005

Ive been meaning to write about the life (and death) of the Muhammad Hassan character in the WWE for a while. Now I can finally say, I have had it with the WWE. All my life I have grown up loving the WWE, and revering its greatest entertainers, most notably Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, The Rock, Triple H, and Kurt Angle. Granted wrestling is filled with alot of crap, but you gotta give to some of their top entertainers who really know how to put on a show and draw a storyline. Most of you (although you wont want to admit it) have loved wrestling in the past and know you respect many of its superstars and the drama they bring week in and week out. Now over the past few months, the WWE has put together the character of Muhammad Hassan. Muhammad is an Arab American wrestler, often accompanied by Daivari (another Arab-American - who isnt even arab, as he speaks Farsi). These two wrestlers’ character personas revolve around the feeling that they are regular Americans just like everyone else, but because they are of Arab descent they are treated unjustly and unfairly. However, the way methods by which these two characters express their views is a rather harsh and unlikable manner. That combined with the blatant obvious racism among many wrestling fans (cmon, we all know most of them are hicks anyways) against anything non-American (many key heels in WWE history in the past have been Russian, Arab, Japanese, Canadian, French, etc.) make Hassan and Daivari two successful heels. However, as many people who follow wrestling can attest to, Hassan and Daivari have many valid points to their arguments. Nonetheless four weeks ago, on Smackdown, while Daivari was being defeaten by the Undertaker, Hassan sent in henchmen dressed in ski masks and camoflauged clothing to beat up on the Undertaker. Daivari was hailed as being a sacrifice for this attack, and was carried away by the masked men like how a suicide bomber’s casket is carried in praise on TV. I lay a HUGE finger of shame on the WWE for this. But get this, the timing of this show was one day after the London Bombings (coincidentally the show was taped the previous night). Much media attention was givent to this, and some even equated this as a terroist angle, as Hassan and his associates were deemed terrorists who terrorized the Undertaker. In response to this, UPN had banned Hassan from Smackdown, and he remained off TV until his PPV appearance against the Undertaker. However that wasnt all. It seems as if the WWE hadnt learned their lesson. They had a great opportunity to save face and re-shape Hassan’c character, but however they did the exact opposite. In the pre-match hype, they showed clips of all of Hassan’s evil shananigans, including the "terrorizing Undertaker angle" over, guess what? - The actual Adhan!! They played the entire Adhan as the background music during the heinous attacak on the undertaker by Hassan and his henchmen. This is dispicable, appalling, and UNEXCUSEABLE. The Adhan is the holy call for prayer for almost 2 billion people worldwide and there is no excuse for it to be broadcast over some stupid wrestling angle. Personally, I have written a long e-mail condemning this to the WWE. And I hope other wrestling fans have done the same. And during the actual match itself, the Undertaker basically destroyed Hassan, Daivari, and all the henchmen also (fully covered in their masks). But that wasnt enough. The undertaker gave Hassan a Last Ride (powerbomb) through the titantron stage down onto a pipe on the concrete floor. He has been out of action since. Basically, this was the WWE’s way of ending the Hassan character entirely. What a disgusting end to a horrific storyline… I highly advise you all to express your feedback regarding this distasteful storyline. You can contact the WWE by clicking here.

well Muhammad Hassan was a great character. Great on the mic and great in the ring and it really is a shame to see him get screwed out of a wrestling career just because of some coincidentally bombing happening on the same day as a show was aired. it’s not right at all and in my opinion Hassan would still be around today and could even have been World Champ

Mr M Hassan has no website infact its probably cause thats not his name he is an American italian Mark Copani who just played a role and i tottaly agree the WWE has gone to far in using sensitive global politics as a pre text for boosting the ratings on the show i belive that fairtayle entertainment and current politics should be seperated

hassan in a short period of time was SO GOOD .. he beat hbk!, fought against hogan, undertaker, batista.. i mean not even shawn fought against hogan until the very end of his career. same with bret.. but this man fought these guys and generated the most heat i have seen a heel generate in a long time.. while i do understand the sensitivities of the london bombing victims, hassan didnt have to be killed for that.. sure wwe could have given an official apology for their actions which they might have done(who knows?) but killing hassan showed, for once mcmahon’s bad business sense..(for those who’ll say that agreeing with tv networks is good business sense, dont forget controvery creates cash and that has been the mantra for ages) and also sadly showed that the country which proclaims itself as the world’s largest metling pot and finest democracy is as intolerant as the people they hate.

The original plan was to kill Muhammad Hassan off, however this did chicken out of killing him off and simply said he suffered a career ending injury like the next night. They could and hopefully one day bring him back as Muhammad Hassan, let’s just hope he wants to come back. He was an awesome character, he pretty much was hated for being truthful about how things were. Also, who didn’t love it when he’d come out and interrupt people mid-sentence with his theme song.
