Diseases of the Spiritual Heart & their Cures

Defining Illness
- English:
an unhealthy condition of body or mind
- Arabic:
(مرض) i. Anything defective that removes a person from a sound state of being
ii hypocrisy
(مرض) Illness is mentioned 24 times in the Quran.
13 times in terms of spiritual sicknesss (disease of the heart) or hypocrisy
11 times referring to physical illness
“Certainly, in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which if it is sound then the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt the whole body is corrupt. Certainly it is the heart.” (hadith)

In the following verses from Surah Al-Shams, Allah 
(SWT) swears to us that:
And by the soul and Him Who made it perfect,
And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;
Truly he succeeds that purifies it (one’s soul/heart),
And he fails that corrupts it! (91:7-10)
i found this quite interesting.. loved the evidence that has been placed from the quran, it really hones in the idea that a clean heart = a clean soul
I’m a college student who has recently been feeling an illness from my heart. I did some very wrong things, and can’t seem to put the guilt behind me. The feeling of torment haunts my every hour, the feeling is horrible, and almost debilitating at times. It leaves me with no desire to committ any acts of goodness. At the age of 22, I’ve made some bad choices in my life, and although I see a bright future for myself, I feel I will truelly not be free with the hardening feeling I am getting in my heart. I seek help for the first time, when I am use to asking for none. Is there any spiritual advice I can receive that will possibly be of benefit to me?
