Bad week for Newsweek
Published by Haseeb May 16th, 2005 in Current NewsOh man, Newsweek has had a bad week in its so called breaking stories.
First off, Newsweek was the first to blame too much partying, too much pressure, and a creative rift with Comedy Central for Chappelle’s break from filming his show. As we recently found out (read my previous post) this was NOT the problem at all. As my man Timmy put it, he is just on a personal rihla (spiritual quest).
And on an even worse note, Newsweek reported that U.S. military investigators had found evidence that American guards at the detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, had committed infractions in trying to get terror suspects to talk, including in one case flushing a Qur’an down a toilet. In response to this, there has been a widescale outrage against this by the entire Islamic world from Gaza to Indonesia, even resulting in deaths in Afghanistan. And now the Pentagon is reporting that this was all a mistake and it never happened! So now Newsweek is apologizing.
Oh man… if it were a mistake, thats really deplorable for Newsweek. And the worse part is that most of the world including Newsweek doesnt even understand how big of a deal this is for Muslims “That does not quite explain, however, why the protest and rioting over Qur’an desecration spread throughout the Islamic region.” . This just reflects how intolerant and disrepectful so many, including those behind Newsweek, really are towards Muslims, and Islam in general. How do they expect us to react if they desecrate what we believe to be the words of God???
