Allah Made Me Funny

Azhar Usman Spring break is awesome… good to be chillin at home for a bit. Got a chance to play ball (I BEAT NAVEED AT BASKETBALL in a game of HORSE!) and i gave my bro some driving lessons (his road test is tomorrow - keep him in ur duas as well). And tonight, along with Tamzid and my bro, we went to manhattan downtown to NYU to see the Allah (SWT) Made Me Funny Comedy Tour. It was really funny! I also liked the NYU MSA atmosphere, definitely more liberal than Stony (thats not necessarily why i liked it), but they do alot. The yahve alot more resources we do, as they work closely in conjunction with other NYU organizations incluidng arab, paki, and graduate school clubs. Right now for the next 2 weeks they have a special SHAROOQ (sp?) program with several really interesting events over the next two weeks. Check it out if you have some time… Anyways onto my review of the Comedy Show… After a long delay (almost one hour) we finally were introduced to the NYU MSA and their MISSION:Masjid. This event was part of a series of fundaising events to help raise money to rent out a musallah space on campus (their lease expires in may) and ultimately to buy out their own masjid in the downtown NYC community. May Allah (SWT) help them achieve their ambitious goals. After a brief talk and a short video, we finally were introduced to the first comedian. Azeem, a convert himself, made several really funny convert jokes. Most notably about his early life being a new Muslim. He talked about telling his grandmother about his acceptance of Islam and her being upset because he didnt even go to jail first. He also talked about the diverse culture of so many muslims and how it wouldve been nicer before meeting some of the varied things some bros do, like the Arab brothers who kiss him, and the extraneous eid hugging, and long-time Muslims overusing new arabic vocabulary. it was funny how he misinterpreted habibi as hey baby. lol was funny when he said it. Preacher Moss was the second comedian, and in my opinion, the funniest. he just looked funny using his body and facial expressions really well. Cant really explain it. Anyways his notable jokes were that regarding Airport Security. It was funny how he wished he changed his name to AllahuAkbar, only to hear the security personnel say it, only to reply with a takbeer. lol He also had great impressions of black ppl, hispanic ppl, white ppl, and his dear old Sister Sarah from the chuch (too tired to explain now… but it was really funny!) Azhar Usman, the final comedian was funny as well, but id say like at least three quarters of his jokes were reused from either his CD or a previous comedy show of his I had attended (yes, my friend Fahad did warn me!). So it wasnt that great for me personally. What was really funny was how he asked how many people in the audience had heard his CD, and a significant portion of the crowd raised their hand. He then asked how many people actually bought his CD, only like 2 hands were up! LOL! Allright thats enough for today, i hope you stony ppl are making the most of ur spring break and of course, keeping me in ur duas…
