NEXT YEAR IS NOW
Published by Haseeb March 20th, 2005 in SportsAllright sports fans, with the recent injury to Steve Traschel, and the trade for Kaz Ishii, I thought now would be a good time to write about my expectations for the Mets and our upcoming season. here are my projected stats for each player this year. Check back at the end of the year and compare to see how they will really do.
-
Starting Lineup:
SS - Jose Reyes - He will be a great leadoff hitter, I project him hitting .300, and going for a 40 steal season!
2B - Kaz Matsui - He should cut down his defensive errors at his new position. A .275 average should be expected.
CF- Carlos Beltran - hes gonna have an MVP season! Arguably the best player in the game now who doesnt take steroids(pujols is right up there with him) i expect a stellar season (.315, 40, 120)
C - Mike Piazza - no longer the player he used to be, if healthy should still be very productive - .280, 30, 90
LF - Cliff Floyd- again if healthy, should be very productive - .290, 35, 85
RF - Mike Cameron - wont hit for the best average, will strike out alot, but will provide stellar defense, and .260, 30+ HRs should be expected out of his offense
3B - David Wright - will have a breakthrough season, dont be surprised to see him move up in the order as the season progresses - expect him to break .300 this year!
1B - Doug Mientkiewicz although he isnt really known for his offense, he should have decent stats and with his gold glove at 1st will really help the young defensive infield
-
Starting Rotation:
1. Pedro Martinez - Will compete for the Cy Young. At shea (a pitchers park) anything less than 20 wins will be a disappointment.
2. Tom Glavine - After a great year last year, should put up similar stats, ~18 wins, and an ERA under 3 are expected
3. Kris Benson Will have a great season. Always had promising talent, now is his time to shine at shea. 15+ wins, sub 4 ERA
4. Victor Zambrano Not sure about Zambrano, Heard alot of his inconsistency, but im hoping he gets it together. Not bad for a #4 starter.
5. Kaz Ishii Lots of talent, will get alot of strikeouts, but very erratic as well and his walk totals will compete up with his strikeouts. if he can be consistent
And as far as the Mets themselves, I project around 90-92 wins and to win the NL East. The Marlins will make it interesting, but I belive this is the year for the mets. No more talk about winning it next year or looking at the future… NEXT YEAR IS NOW!

The Mets suck, I predict a 3rd place finish.
reyes - injured midseason
matsui- mad errors, underachiever
beltran- overrated, overhyped, mexican
piazza- past his prime, gay
floyd- old, black
cameron- ditto floyd
wright- hes pretty good, will break out
Doug Mientkiewicz- old, smells, jewish
pitching- ok
i predict 78 wins, another underachieving season due to lack of consistent talent and injuries- i predict a better fate for the DEenz List, 2005 intramural champions due to the leadership and all around athletic ability of one naveed ahmed
Met fans always say, “Next Year” in response to how much the Mets suck in whichever year they’re in. Don’t you know that that “Next Year” is never coming for the Mets?
LETS GO BRAVES!!!!!
