Joey

As many of you know, I liked the show friends alot during its prime. Over the years the quality of the show declined, but no1 can argue how funny the show has been over the past decade. Whether it was the Unagi episode, the one where joey and ross have the best nap of their lives, ross pivoting the sofa up the stairs, the day joey and chandler switched apartments with rachel and monica, when they played football, the prom video, chandler in the box, when every1 found out about monica and chandler, and so on, all great memories.

Anyways the show ended and every1 is going their separate ways, besides Joey. NBC has signed him to come back for his own sitcom. The first episode was leaked on the internet and of course, i downoaded it using bittorrent just to check out how Joey without the gang will be. This is my review of the inagural episode of Joey. *SPOILER ALERT*, haha

Well the premise for this series is that Joey moves from NY out to LA to continue pursuing his career of acting. The episode starts off  with Joey getting into a cab outside the airport. As they proceed during the ride, Joey talks to the cabbie about his future plans about pursuing his career, etc. The cabbie asks, then what are you doing in Dallas. Dimwitted Joey then remembered taht his flight stopped over in Dallas. Typical Joey. Basically, once he finally arrives in LA, Joey is greeted at the airport with his sister, who finds him a place to live near him. This sister also has a 20 year old son, who ends up moving in with joey by the end of the episode.

The show is filled with many typical Joey type jokes stressing the fact that he isnt the sharpest knife in the drawer. Nonetheless, because they kept the Joey character exactly the same, this show may become attractive at first to the millions of Friends fans out there, simply because this show will remind everyone about the good old days of friends, and watching joey serves as the only remedy for the nostalgia it creates. It should be interesting to see how Joey plays out in LA without the gang. Several references to the friends were made in the show. For example, Joey's sister wondered why Joey and Chandler didnt move out to LA sooner for they already had a great gay community. Well the first episode will be sure to get great ratings and will be watched by many. What is left to be seen is how the other characters develop. The character played by Joey's nephew is kind of similar to Chandler. He is a young genius, (Chandler was a numbers guy) not the biggest ladies man (chandler wasnt either), and it looks like they will develop a close knit relationship. But in the end, he is not chandler, and it is unfair to compare Joey to Friends. If you go into watching the show looking for friends, prepare to be let down, but otherwise, it looks like Joey will start off as a funny and entertaining show, but will need to further develop dynamic characters around him. Also a few guest appearances from old Friends-cast members wouldnt hurt either -)
